Parents and smacking their children

    How is it right to inflict pain on a child for disobeying? The only time I would ever even consider it is if she actually hit/smacked me, other than that I think it would just cause her to resent me and be fearful. Fear does not equal discipline.

    So no hitting = no discipline? I have never once laid a hand on my child and he is the most well-behaved child I know. He listens to me out of respect, not fear.
