dignifying peoples insults with a response or gaining revenge may cause bad karma, which i really don't want.

karma will teach em in the long run, don't worry!

It's really strange.. I mean, I get called a hippie all the time at school.. Even by the teachers... but not once in my life have I ever gotten it in a negative way...

People just kinda accept/embrace differences at my school...

I'm sorry for all those who have to put up with that shit though.

 

I don't. Yeah, sure teasing often can cross the line (like for example the teacher comments about the hippie school) but that can be an easy lapse in judgement. Heck, the vice principal at my old elementary schoolonce asked my younger sister when she was there "what else she needed besides a shave?". It wasn't because he was a hippie, or because he was trying to make her feel bad (she was crying at the time cause she had hurt her knee or something) but was trying to make her feel better, BUT he did cross the line.

Personally, most of the poeple standing up for the OP are dinks who are tkaing holier than thou stances by saying that "preps are just mad they all look the same" et cetera...

i agree that no one should be teased until it really starts to bother them, but you can't say that being called a "hippie" is unfair and then turn around and be a bigger dink back.

 

High school students can be extremly immature ... Ive been called " hippie " and also I have been putting up with hippie jokes for years and I just shrug them off maybe laugh if its funny but its really nothing to worry about ... most of those people will not effect you when you are out of high school.

She's right man, I haven't heard from anyone in my class that I haven't wanted to. Once your out they all go away. Just stick it out and you'll be fine. We were all teased at some point, but you just need to show them you are a better person by not trying to get back...like willy said karma has a way of working things out.

Like I said before I really don't mind it at all when my friends make jokes about me being a hippie. I really find alot of them pretty funny. It's just the fact that a teacher is doing it pisses me off. He does it in this arrogant asshole kind of way. I said something really mean to him today too though. I actually think what I said was a little over the line. Someone asked why he played basketball with the team after school if he wasn't the coach and I said because he has no friends his own age because he's a loser Latin teacher and this is all he's going to be doing for the rest of his life. He didn't really know what to say after that. I think my grade might have just gone down the drain. It was worth it though.

Another thing about my school is we aren't allowed to wear any kind of shirt with a picture or writing on it. Everyone does it all the time and teachers don't really say anything. One day I wore a Bob Marley shirt and they made me get a shirt out of my car and change. There were like 10 other people wearing Tshirts that day and none of them had to change. The shirt wasn't inappropriate at all. It just had Bob Marley on it and nothing else. They pretty much force me to wear polos and look like a prep. At least I only have this year and next year left and then I'm moving far away.

 

did you think about apologizing for what you said, then maybe having a real conversation with him? i worked for this woman who was an absolute bitch before.. i wouldnt be doing anything wrong, but it was like she went out of her way to belittle me. instead of getting really bothered by it, i asked her to talk one day. we sat down and i explained to her what i was feeling.. that i thought it was really unfair the way she treated me, and if i was really doing something wrong, then to approach me in a politer manner. i thought maybe i'd just dug a hole, and things were only going to get worse since i called her out on her child-like behavior, but she actually gained more respect for me because of it.

dont make the rest of your school year any harder on yourself than you have to. it's scary to call someone out.. but if they're a good person, they'll understand and appreciate your honesty. just tell your teacher not to make so many hippie jokes and let him know why it bothers you.

 

I don't understand why people on this forum talk about how they resist from fitting into steroetypes...Have you not read the name of the forum? It's called Hipforum.com...Or you could even call it Hippyland Forum! You're on a frickin' hippie forum and you talk about how the sun shines and rainbows glow, and all that crap...

I'm not a hippie, I'm just here to piss most of you off.


Anyway, just consult someone about; do something about it yourself with him; or do fuck all...It's not that hard a decision.

I look like a prep an awful lot of the time, particularly when I have to go to work. I doubt I look the same, having a unique DNA sequence and all. Nor am I afraid to be an individual. Holy fucking judgemental (not you specifically, but folks who are so "preps suck, omg, they are like total clones").

The way to amke somone feel better about themselves isn't to make them think they are beter than others like you did, it is to acctually show them that EVERYONE is the equal and (to take a page from this crazy lady i used to know) special. All hippie look the same too, it is like they are afraid of water or somehting? See, look, I can do it too. Maybe said "preps" you are talking about like the fit of certain clothes? Hmm, ever think of that. There was a period of time I LOVED OldNavy T's because of the fit, now I quite like the fit of American Apparel.
