well, i have been some kind goth/hippie my entire life. i have just never fitted into a conventional mode; a lot of people tried to make me fit by, trying to cut me down... never, ever, work. as a goth, we goths, have this same debate too and, so do the punks also. i have even heard the emos whine about it too. yeah, some parts of emo, goth, hippie and, punk, have sold their souls out. some of us have not though. just the other day on the radio, i heard that there is a desinger tie- dyed that sells for $ 150.00! well, we goths have the same thing. it is a "goth" clothing store called 'hot topic.' it is part of 'the gap' (or, as i call it, 'the crap'.) clothing franchise. hot topic is almost always found in yuppie shopping malls... that by itself says one hell of a lot there! i wear black most of the time. i wore black even before there was the term goth. people told me things like, i was evil or, i looked like an undertaker. i just bought 3 black t-shirts for, $ 13.00 a piece, heavey weight, they last me about 8 years. i'm sure there is someone who sells tie-dyes that, are just as good a quality as the t-shirts i bought. and they sure as hell will last longer then a $ 150.00 desinger goth or, hippie t-shirt. real emo, goth, hippie or, punk is something that is within one's being. most times, we can pick up the "vibe" that someone is different from the norms; sometimes, if you hang around someone you can tell if they are what they say they are.
Haha, you're right. Every subculture is busy with who's 'true' and who's faking. What's bothering me mostly about hippies though is that a lot seem to have this idea that they're better because they have the nicest ideals, while they're just really not. They just talk about them most of the time but they're just as ugly as the rest. Which is very logical and perfectly alright. You're not a better person for being vegetarian, wearing tiedye or long hair, 'loving nature' (just like non-hippies can't love nature ) or listening to Janis Joplin. I agree other subcultures have their megalomaniacs as well, but at least they don't pretend to be the saviours of the world.
i dont know man but that seems pretty lame to me. just because someone calls themself a hippie means their a poser and you completly know them? Thats pretty stupid... I didnt think it was cool to judge people. But i'd say i'm a hippie and i do wear tie dye, and smoke grass, but i also believe in peace, love, socialism, and love nature... but i guess i'm just a walking cliche.
hey hippie girls! i bought some new tye-dyes and a hemp necklace, where the line at for blowjobs? i even pawned my bling and 50 cent CDs so if you like want some cash i can give you a lil sumtin sumtin... you guys are funny,
Hippie has too many meanings for my likings. Today someone might be called a hippie for having long hair, or for liking the Beatles, or for promoting peace. In my eyes, a true hippie wants to share love and remove hatred from the world. That to me, is the closest we can get to a real, and accurate "stereotype" of the word hippie. The rest is up to the person Peace -Matt
