All people have deep thoughts...just because they're not ones you're interested in doesn't necessarily mean they're shallow. If you can speak a language, you probably have deep thoughts of some kind or another. ZW
Sweetie, as a means of patronizing me never did I mention anything about morality, I'm talking about the existence of 'facts'. You seem to be basing your replies to me on the argument you think I am failing, when my opinions of these matters have not been presented. I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant I'm not talking about the Koran or the Bible of the existence of a 'higher power'. I'm not talking about world rights or societal issues. Look through my post history in this thread. You will find me valuing the thought process over the outcome of it (as I thought was the intention of this thread) instead of focusing on the potential fallacies of the process itself. Not claiming to know anything about computer programming, but long sequences of numbers probably occupy the spaces in between the coding for the lines themselves
I hate hearing "we're just animals and when we die we die". Yeah way to express your imagination dick head. I myself live in a fantasy land. If you've got a decent question I'll have an answer, however politically incorrect it seems. >.>
^ I just saw this tv thing about PULSARS I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going to be after I die Serious though, I like the term Non-Human Animals that my psych101 teacher used It says "Humans are animals, but we're talking about Animals"
Seeing as I see myself as inferior to most people, and I partake in deep thinking regularly, I really don't understand what you're talking about with that comment...
I think it's just natural to think about things that are unknown, and unexplainable. That's a natural fascination I think. Or to try and think about things in a more logical, rational way. Rather than just accepting things just because it's seen as "the norm", or that's what you were taught when you were growing up. I think I likely do have too much time on my hands to think, but then again, that's probably better than not doing it at all. If you accept things just because, and never question things, even when logically you probably should, that to me is worse than spending a lot of time deep thinking.
Fair enough. Let’s try another: We are communicating via the internet; fact or non-fact? Even though I have no definitive answers, for me, the mere act of pondering existence and consciousness brings enjoyment not superiority. It’s something I was probably born with. It started when I witnessed the death of my grandfather at around five years old; prior to that I didn’t know that everyone dies. That rocked my five year old world. The more perplexing question for me is: how can someone live this existence and not question reality?
Ask yourself this. Where would we be today if over the past hundred thousand years people weren't asking bigger, deeper, more seemingly unknowable questions? We wouldn't know where we stand in the universe or if some code of laws would be useful for society. We'd be super ignorant assholes and in a much less desirable situation than we currently have.
well the powers that be don't want you to think, with all the game machines, TV, internet, and you must have better trainers than the bloke next door or you are worthless, this is what they want you to concentrate on, so you don't think too much. For an example, sometimes I go into town, on one street there is a beautiful old tree, so tall and knobbley, I always stand and look at it, but all the people are rushing by with their breefcases, hurrying off to make more money to buy more possesions, they don't even notice it! I'm glad I'm not one of them, no matterhow much money they make, my life will always be richer than theirs.
Advertisement is a good example. If I drink xyz beer, bikini babes will fall from the sky... I then go and buy beer. It sounds ridiculous but advertisers pay big money to put out those messages every moment of the day somewhere around the world. It's what they value. Your values are different than theirs.
Pitying people who have lots of money and do enjoy their life spending it somehow reeks a bit of jealousy
...Really? I have to explain how it's kind of pathetic to pity people because you think your life is so much better than theirs because you are somehow "enlightened"? That's no better than them having their values or their lives, especially if they are not wasting their time passing judgement on those who choose to live differently than them.
If everyone had deep thoughts I wouldn't feel smart for having them, and besides everyone's pondered something deep on the john.
I can see how you came to that conclusion but I thought Andred's main point was to contrast those who blindly get caught in the trap of consumerism to those who can value the simple pleasures of life.
