Quite right man, I was still a young, ignorant, idealistic cat when I named myself Indy Hippy. Kept the name when I had to make a new profile so that old friends could easily find me again. I also never said I had a problem with people labeling me a hippie. I just said that I am not a hippie man

Since when is fitting the stereotype bad? lol

I think it's only bad if you are consciously TRYING to fit the stereotype, like to fit in or whatever.

But, I'm not here to tell anyone how to talk/act - you can all post how you wish lol :)

Fitting a stereotype as a glove gets bad when you are regarded and treated as a stereotype/walking cliché/charicature.

I can dig your words man. Course in order for stereotypes to affect someone they gotta give a damn about them first :D

Not necessarily. I don't give a damn about stereotypes at first instance but when I notice others might perceive me as being stereotypical in a certain way it can hinder the perception, conversation, etc. and just be terribly annoying. Not saying this is worth avoiding every possibility of getting perceived as a stereotype or something, but the other extreme: wallowing in the characteristics of a wellknown stereotype is one sure thing to get perceived as a walking cliché. If a walking cliché also talks like one, yeah, then you are going to have to accept that certain other people find you annoying and obnoxious.

True but then you also gotta be willing to care about how other people feel too, man. As long as you are completely satisfied with yourself that should be all that matters. My wife understands that I fit in with a different style and has come to love me for it. If one wants to adopt some characteristics of an antiquated style what is wrong with that?

I'm curious, do people actually still talk like this ?
I honestly haven't heard people say this kind of stuff in actual daily conversation since about 1976.

Like I said there is not necessarily something wrong with it but the person looking like one have to accept how (s)he will be perceived. Most people seem to get annoyed with being perceived as a stereotype in reality when it appears not everyone has the same positive associations as the person conforming to one.

Not many younger. I've met some who use the lingo, most are above the age of 40 though. If we are gonna go based off of stereotypes then I will say that my being stereotyped as a hippie has often brought me many good things in life. That and I try to be a mindful human being. Always just go with the flow, man

Could be people talking about how hippies talk among others of course. Some of my younger friends call me hippie and most of them of them don't understand what I am saying no matter what jargon I use. I think what they really mean is that I am older or from the hippie days.

Obviously it is impossible to measure percentage without taking a census. We might come to consensus though about what is so which would be a better measure of what is so as opposed to only apprehending a percentage of the truth.

Words can be used to style a person's message or a person's image. If a person chooses to pick the vocabulary of a subculture from essentially 40 years ago is he more likely to get his message across clearer or to make something clear about himself?
