If you are not on hormonal birth control then you get your period heavier... its a true fact that surprised me after I went off all birth control.

I have been getting my period for 30 years; I threw it an anniversary party, in fact. everyone wore red and brought binge food and sappy movies.

When I was a kid and in my 20s I had 1) hardly any sex life and 2) the aforementioned period underwear, though never anything nasty - just "granny panties". Then in my early and mid thirties I became rather obsessed with pristine panties. Honestly, if there is a stain of any sort, I cut out the crotch and use the panties to polish silver or clean paint brushes. I buy cute thongs and panties at K-Mart on sale. My pet peeve is that they always mix up the colors in the packages. To buy black or red, I often must make due with some dumb little girlish floral or smiley face pattern. I can always tell when my period is about to arrive because of the weird food cravings so panties stay relatively stain free. When they do stain, it is light enough that it comes out easily using the proper laundering technique. When I wear jeans I prefer to go "commando" and at the start and end of my period I'll do so wearng a tampon.

Regarding blood stains on panties ... if one soaks them in cold water and detergent for an hour, rinses them out, and then rinses with hydrogen peroxide before tossing them in a cold water wash they rarely stain. It is not as onerous a task as it sounds and takes barely any time at all.
