I've been following this thread and just wanted to throw in my two cents worth. Don't know if I should because I'm not, for some unknown reason, a Rainbow "member" nor a commune member, but anyhow ...

There is nothing wrong with dreams, here's part of a speech I've given many times, mostly at Civil Rights protests:

    "Dreams are good,
In the Broadway musical South Pacific there's a song named "Happy Talk",
    It contains the following lines,

"You've got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream,
How you gonna have a dream come true?"

Dr. King had a dream, and we're all working to make it come true,
But at some point we've got to,
    Stop wishing and dreaming
    and start working and doing"

And that's what you need to get busy with: working and doing. From what I've read, it sounds like you have no money and no experience & those are the things that are needed. It sounds like you have youth, enthuasium and desire... those things are very easy to find. It also sounds like a lot, well most really, of today's folks you want instant satisfaction. You want to go from where you are in life to where you want to be today, tomorrow at the latest. It ain't gonna happen. What you need is to find a place where you can trade "three hots & a cot" for working your ass off while keeping your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open. That's the way you learn. Sorry, I maybe coming off kind of harsh. As Rasta.Patch put it:
He goes on to say he spent decades working for free until he got his current situation. I tried communes in the early 1970s & found out they weren't for me. I tried my first farm/homestead in the late 1970s after gardening for about 20 years, lost it due to divorce, tried again & lost it due to getting screwed by a "friend", then started my current farm about 20 years after my first try. And after about a dozen years here I can say I seem to have finally realized my dream.

    Another thing:
Yep, we live in/on a world where capitalism is king. More countries, even China, are heading that way too. Let me give you a little piece of advise, deal with it, get over it or around it or through it or whatever. One of the hardest things us folks of consience have to face & deal with is the clash of Idealism and Reality. Maybe in our ideal world there wouldn't be "owning" and all that crap, but so fuckin' what. In the world we do live in, that's just the way it is. Another thing, in this thread [and in the "Communal Living" & "Living on Earth" forums] I see people talking about ... the Native Americans (or ancient civilizations, etc.) did this or that or whatever. Again, so fuckin' what? Gas use to be 25 cents per gallon. But that was then, this is now, and those days aren't going to return. Another thing, here and in other forums you'll see folks talking about the upcoming collapse of Capitalism, Society, Civilization, the USA, and all that blah, blah, woof, woof. Well, maybe, be most likely it's not going to happen and if it does it probably won't happen in our life times. I've heard folks saying these type things for over 45 years and it ain't happened. They say "times are hard", yep, for at least some people times have always been hard. If you want to hear about hard times volunteer at an "old folks home" and ask them about the Great Depression. Again then not now, but still the point is that things have been harder before and civilization, etc., survived. And remember, the only reason the price of gas, food, land, whatever is so high is that there is only so much of it and there are people who can & do pay it.

Of course, I neither qualified nor authorized to speak for Mr. Patch, let me say in general depending on others who have already done the work isn't going to get you very far. And on that subject, when you say things like:
If you aren't willing to put in the effort to "sift through" ic.org, it'll make folks doubt the "willing to work my ass off" part. You need to do your own leg work.

Again, I'm neither qualified nor authorized to speak for any communes, but I can say with confidence that if you try to turn already existing communes into anything, they'll kick you out so damn fast you won't believe it. And by the way, they already know about the cause of Peace and spiritual unity. But I do like the phrase "the greed of corporate Earth ".

But anyway, that's all just this old hippie farmer's opinion, take it as you will......

    Peace, :peace:,

We want to make it a reality. Let us take the leap. We need action. We want this right? Through our creativity, skills and talents we can If we want this bad enough, we will take steps to accomplish our vision of having sustainable land. Places are already set up. Go there to learn and teach. Plains,MT Ripple Ranch. Yonder's Farm east of Macon,GA. Check out about it in the forums. A lot of work will need to be done. TOGETHER. Any group of people with a common vision can accomplish anything if they put their hearts and souls into it. The fear of having nothing is great until nothing gets in your way. It is time to make a difference. See you in the woods. Peace. Lost&Found
