I just realized; many of the people I know wear their shoes indoors. Why? I don't realize why you wouldn't be comfortable with bare feet in your own home.
I posted this before, but last month I was watching one of those old twilight zone episodes from the 50's. It started out showing a middle-aged married couple in bed and their daughter in the next room was crying because she was in peril. The lady says to her husband, "Find out what's wrong, hurry, hurry!" The husband says, "I am going as fast as I can, I just have to get my slippers on". His daughter could be choking or worse, but Heaven forbid he gets out of bed w/o any footwear...lol I also saw an episode of "Storm Stories" on the weather channel in which this couple was trying to get out of their house which was in the path of a tornado. The wife said she almost did not make it out alive because she was in a panic trying to find her shoes. Again, a tornado is bearing down on you, but being leaving the house w/o footwear is much worse than being sucked up by a tornado.
These comments never cease to amaze me. I know one thing, if a tornado was coming towards my home, I'd say the hell with any footwear, and run for cover. A human life is so much more important than a pair shoes. It's almost like a human foot could not function unless it's covered up in some sort of shoe.
One of the older relatives in my extended family still gives me hell about me going barefoot inside my own house. She thinks the risk of injury is too great. She has no idea that I ever go barefoot outdoors. I don't want to have that conversation with her.
OMG, I wonder what she would think of someone like me who doesn't even own a pair of shoes and who goes places like NYC and Philadelphia barefoot...lol
I do get annoyed by people who need to keep reaffirming that they go barefoot; no one walks around continuously going on about not having a bag, or wearing only pure cotton. But, on the other hand it annoys me when people ask me if my feet are cold, or if I forgot to put shoes on
Well, I guess if we lived in Australia or South Africa it would be no big deal. In those countries nobody gives you grossed out looks or odd stares simply because you are barefoot in public, they just see it as "He likes wearing shoes", "She doesn't like to wear shoes", nothing more than that. It's too bad it can't be like that in North America. I guess we are saying, "LOOK I do it and so can you" even though everyone tells you can't or you shouldn't. I guess we are trying to slowly break the social taboo once again, the way they did it in the '60s.
I met a female friend in a park in NYC. She was with some of her girlfriends and told me I was embarrassing her since I was barefoot. One of them said "That's OK, if he's comfortable like that." She was generally OK with me barefooting if we were together.
I've already dated a girl like this who would be wishy-washy about me going barefoot in certain social circles she had, so I know where you're coming from. Even my best friends was like this and one day he confronted me on it. He told me that when we go places like fast-food joints and restaurants he sees people looking with disgust at my bare feet. I just flat out gave him an ultimatum, either he gets over the fact that I don't wear shoes or he can write me off as a friend. He gave in and got over it.
I may not always agree with what you say, but for this simple fact you deserve an A. I haven't seriously gone barefoot in NYC, but I'll make sure I do that on my upcoming trip.
I don't have any problems myself about walking around barefooted...I actually think it feels really comfortable after a while. but my dad never likes it...for pretty much no reason at all. I used to do it all the time, and he would always get really upset and make me put socks on. Oh well though...I can still SLEEP barefooted XD haha
Some one asked me if I don't wear shoes because it's easier to climb trees. And I just couldn't think of a clever answer for him
No offense, but this is why we move away from home. Time to test the waters, develop your own values, blow off steam,...
Time to get another tailor. I can't imagine any of them are so flush with business right now that they can afford to lose a paying customer. "Sure it is! And once I'm up there you can feel what it's like to be looked down upon."
this toenail.. it's one of the many reasons i hate shoes.. it would rub the inside top of the shoe and make my entire leg ache..
I get that. A little arthritis gives me two of those devils. I cannot avoid shoes, but society could relax a little on my downtime.
lol that really sucks, my parents dont really care. when i was in TN one time my grandma had a rocky driveway and they were always really hot, and i use to step on them barefoot cause it strangely felt good to me and my dad just looked at me all weird. saying "no. you're a chicago girl!! you cant walk barefoot!"
