Philosophy of education

    Maybe I'm missing something, but - in all honesty - I can think of no more than three reasons for pursuing 'education':

    • to acquire knowledge which could potentially be used for a useful purpose.
      [*] simply to satisfy a desire to learn - you are curious; you find it interesting; you feel like it.
      [*] to develop a person's 'mental faculties'.

    Yet perhaps this is simplistic! [ :scratches head: ] Can anyone enlighten me?

    I'm not sure I understand the question. Do you mean: what is education in it's present manifestation - i.e. mass-schooling? I think it's a load of nonsense, frankly! I say this because it's efforts do not coincide with what I believe the purpose of education actually is [ see response to your first question ]!

    That's just my two cents anyway...
