We had an OLD dog, (who, wisely, was afraid of babies) the kids discovered that the only way Cocoa would go near them is if they dropped food off their trays. LOL! That's a nice looking Short Hair you have there. Boy or girl? We had a shorthair, Lab, Jack Russel mix. (The doggie I mentioned above.) She would park herself under the chair of the youngest child at every meal. Family or guest. She had learned that the baby would either willingly drop food to her, or drop it because they were babies. We had to remove her when my nephew would come over, because he would feed his entire dinner to Cocoa. In fact, every dog we have had over the years realizes that Babies are an good source of food procurement. I can still hear my oldest three, yelling "CO-CO, CO-CO UMMMMMMMMM!" and she would come running to a baby with a fist full of her or his lunch.
I'm what you would call a picky eater to this day. My mom would try the "your not moving anywhere until you eat this or at least try it" game. The thing is, I have a lot of patience to just sit. I would sit for hours which usually led to bedtime. I would only eat my mom's Mac and Cheese, Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches using 2 seperate knives that could NEVER tough, and a few other things. I didn't like very many fruits or veggies. You couldn't really get me to eat fast food either because I didn't like burgers much and I absolutely HATE condiments. Until I was about 12, the food I ate consisted basically of cold cereal, grilled cheeses made precisely the way I wanted them, MANY PB&Js, and various sugared food. To this day, I'm abnormally picky even for a picky eater and I have weird eating habits, such as I cannot watch people eat food or be around them that has a strong odor such as pickles though I can eat them when I'm alone or I cannot drink from a fridge other than my own or my mom's. I use to have a real hard time going out to eat, even as I got older, because I was so damn picky and I have such a weird phobia of foods. I don't know if their is something my mom could have done differently to get me to eat because I was really stubborn. Even when I was sick, I would refuse any type of medicine. She fed me vitamins(the sugar coated ones) and continued to try to get me to eat more healthy but usually failed miserably. I'm defintely a lot better and healthier now but still not where I want to be.
Dakota is also a picky eater. He would be quite happy with mac and cheese, mushrooms, cheese, pizza, cheese, fish, cheese, chicken nuggets, cheese eggs and juice. He really doesn't like to experiment with a lot of different foods. He has problems with new situations also. We let him eat what he wants most of the time. However, I don't go out of my way to make special meals for him. He usually will eat a few bites and then he is done eating. About once a week he has a "food day". On a food day I can't fill him up. He eats from the time he gets up until he goes to bed. I have seen him eat a cheese omelet with 4 eggs in it, toast, then two servings of mac and cheese then almost a whole mushroom pizza and snacks in between. It's like he is making up for an entire week of not eating all in one day. Last week he did not eat more than two bites at a time Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. But yesterday we just couldn't fill him up. Now today it's almost 1:00 and he hasn't eaten a bite of anything yet. I believe kids will eat when they are hungry. If you force kids to eat when they are not hungry or if you fight with them over food all the time you end up with kids like me. I was 100 pounds in kindergarten, 200 pounds in junior high, and close to 250 pounds at the end ofhigh school. Most of my adult life I have been hovering around 300 pounds. Why, because I was forced to clean my plate whether I liked the food or not. Children need to be loved and encouraged not forced to do anything, Kathi
I had 5 daughters who all pretty much ate what we all ate everyday, every meal, and it just was never a problem. I was thinking about our early methods of baby food. My partner and I would chew up our food while baby sat in infant seat,( 8 months or so-previously breast fed only )), and we would spit it on a spoon, and just feed them what we were eating. I do believe that is why, they were early on introduced to the diet they would be eating themselves when they grew older, and they just liked most foods. Most people think this is barbaric, but it really worked for us. I hated baby food grinders, and found it easier to just chew it first. I know they also got important enzymes for digestion that are present in the mouth, and necessary to break down these first foods. I can't imagine making special meals for anyone, making one meal for 7 was enough for me, and it was pretty much like it, or wait till something else is served. I never had the patience for picky eaters. I had too much else to do.!!!
Many cultures chew food for their toddlers, it's not unusual, nor IMO, "barbaric" I am glad you have children who eat well, 3 of my 4 do, also. I don't either, but I really don't have a choice........
Thank you, she is female. Had her since she was just barely weened. Best dog I've ever had. She isn't the problem at mealtime. She is quite well behaved and knows to sit across the room until everyone is finished and then she can clean up the floor. The problem is our boy dog. He is a lab/collie mix. I've only hag him for a couple of years, and he was already full grown when I got him. He is fairly well behaved, but didn't get the full training like my shorthair did. He knows the rules, but like to push his limits.
