Yeah...see I'm kinda quirky that way in that my legs aren't as sensitive to cold as the rest of me. Conversely, in warm weather, I need to have my thighs exposed as even in longer shorts my legs feel as though they're sweltering! About mid-thigh is usually adequate.

And yeah, it does get really cold here in Alberta, but we did have a very mild winter this year....hope that trend continues! ;)

    Peace!

Matthew- I will certainly do that soon. I'm still recovering from surgery so my one foot is still pretty swollen and doesn't look the best. Give me a few weeks and i'll try to post them.

I definately can. Some kids threw some small stones in the swimming pool at our apartment complex. All it took was my left foot to fetch each stone out of the water. It a funny thing, when it's my right foot, I can't pick up anything at all.

Yep. I have to have that freedom, too, when it's warm. so mid thigh it is for me, most times, unless it's really hot and humid, then I can "get away with" cuffing them up one more level, or just wear short running shorts.

So, what's the coldest you've worn shorts outside in? I don't mean just running to the car because you forgot something, or just to get the mail. Actually being out, doing things, being seen in public, etc. I think for me it's just short of -20F. Maybe -17 or -18F. The last time we had winters colder than that, I wasn't brave enough to be out in it like that. I'd cover up just during the extreme spells. Used to quit when it was around +10F. Not any more. But I am careful. Two years ago, one morning, when it was around 12 below, I stopped the truck on a place where I work, just to check on something a ways into the woods. (There wasn't much snow that year) I got a ways in, and noticed how dangerously cold my legs were starting to feel. Suddenly the truck seemed a long way away, even though I could still see it. I got back to it OK. But it was a reminder to me not to be too foolish when help is far away. I'm big on the safety of it. Not taking chances, or having a clear way out if you do take chances.

It was the mildest winter ever here in Maine. Mixed blessing. I have a love-hate affair with the serious cold. But this was the first time EVER that the lakes weren't safe most of the winter. Too weird.

Yeah, I think in my case too, it's a generational thing; I come from that late 70's-early 80's era when shorter shorts lengths were common for both sexes. Old habits die hard, I suppose!

I've had minor bouts with frost bite that have done the same for me! I tend to be an "indoor kitty" in the winter time, but the coldest I've been out in would be about the low minus teens on the centigrade scale (right around zero on the fahrenheit scale).....I generally observe the "outdoor hockey rule" where anything below -10 c is a bad idea.

Same here in Alberta! And I do have mixed feelings about that; as much as I despise the cold and would never miss it, the global warming ramifications do concern me somewhat.

Glad you liked it, boogie! :p

Actually, maneuvering the "front" and side shots for these was kind of a bitch! Hopping around in one boot is a lot tougher than it looks!

Ah well, the lengths I go to to give my good freinds here at the Hip Forum a chuckle....good to see it didn't go unnoticed! :)

    Lata!

    Welcome aboard!

Actually, I'm not at all fond of my toes, but my foot size (or utter lack of it! ) never ceases to amuse me! ;)

I think you're right! I hadn't thought of it before, at least not like this. There is a breaking point around the mid-80s where guys suddenly had to make sure their thighs are covered. This is still going on, and in fact, I think showing knees is beyond the pale, too. I'm still in good enough shape for my age that I will continue doing what I've always done. My 3 years in California may have helped free me too.

The good side of all this longer shorts thing? I've noticed more and more of us guys wearing shorts all year in recent years, rather than waiting till May, as was once the case! I'm sure I'm right on this. So that part is good.
