I just find it odd they don't find it necessary to march for the mistreatment of women in the Middle East, nor for the sexual assaults of women by migrants in Europe. But they'll gather massive crowds because an orange skinned bottle blond said mean things.

Well, of course it is natural to be more upset and concerned with isses that are closer to us, and that are happening to us.
But if I was American, I think American warmongering and interfering with so many countries would be an issue that I'd be most upset with, and ashamed of.
But Trump said and tweeted some really mean stuff, you guys!
Anyways, this is irrelevant for the topic.

I get Obamacare. Healthcare is something everyone should have easily available, I've always believed this, and I'd definitely stand up for that.
But this march wasn't about that, was it?

And about pink pussyhats - that's just trashy.

In general i think it is good for people to protest and stand up and show up and make real human connections stead of sitting in their basement sharing memes and thinking they're so clever

Like today, the plight of women isnt a particular cause dear to my heart, i think i said earlier in the thread that I think women are doing okay in westerm countries. I would rather protest something more specific, like healthcare. America desperately needs a better healthcare system...but i went for my mom and for the experience. And I had fun, i met new people, i saw other people making friends and sharing thoughts and opening up conversation, so everyone who came went away more enriched than before. This is a good thing.

I dont really care what the cause is, i think protest is good period. And it isnt just because Trump said mean things, its because what he said set the tone for his presidency and for what he has the power to do as president. And today a lot of people (there were a lot of men at the one in my city!) came to send a message that they're politically involved and they're keeping an eye on his administration. Whats wrong with that?

I just dont really get why the apparantly same people who will defend the second amendment all day long are so disgusted by protest. The right to protest is a constitutional right too

I did not even know what a pink pussyhat looked like until today. To me, it looks like a pink cap with cat ears.....
My brother was out and about today with the pink pussyhat marchers a bit. he said there are lots of good people out there.

i also noticed in some of the photos, women are holding up signs..."MY body...not yours...".....pre protesting the abortion issue? that is what I gathered....Do you all want Roe vs Wade over turned and less freedom of your own body and decisions?...so what if they interfere and say no more tatoos, piercings, etc, next...too...I thought this country was supposed to be about FREEDOM.

I wonder if they allowed any space for the self proclaimed pro-life feminists in that crowd.

Look at these protestors wearing hijabs to protest oppression against women. Irony much?

As a woman in western society, I feel nobody will take me seriously unless I dress like a vagina with pink cat ears

If you judge the western world by a minority of women who choose to do something silly during a protest march you might get a very depressing picture of 'the western world'. The good thing is it is a distorted picture. Same with if you would judge the western world or a western society by the overly pc people who try to shut people up by making them seem racist (also an issue you and 6-eyed both seem really concerned about). Yes, such people are out there. Same with these pussy hat wearing women. Does it say something absolute about the state of the western world? No, but you can make it seem like that. The protest itself however (and the magnitude of it, and the actual reasons why it is held) says something about the leader of one particular western society.

My point was, if a group of women choose to do this it negates the issue and makes the women look like silly stupid women. Won't be taken seriously, you know? Another thing about that march... Roaarrrr for Hilary group was involved ... strongly involved. Women's group sponsored by the clintons?

All I'm saying is that I believe western society already takes women's issues very seriously. And that this is merely a feel good festival.
