Maybe if you were on the South Island, but barefooting's a way of life for many Kiwis, irrespective of the time of year. When in Rome...

Just do It. I'm also at college doing teacher training of all things and unless the weather is unbearably cold as it has been over here these last few weeks my feet are always free and exposed :) Apart from the occasional comment or funny look no-one seems to mind

This time of year, when it's too friggin' cold to go anywhere without shoes, I think about what I might do differently this coming year. I haven't done any barefoot hiking. Initially, it didn't appeal to me much, but after reading numerous posts in the forum and also speaking with a woman into barefoot rock climbing (http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showpost.php?p=6030454&postcount=140) I think I'll give it a try. Nearby there are a lot of bike paths, but most of those are paved, which doesn't appeal to me. In the foothills, there are numerous dirt paths for mountain biking/hiking. I'll have to be a bit selective about which of those I choose as some go through rocky, rattlesnake country. Nearer to my home, there are a few dirt paths that I think I'll use to start.

Hmm... I think I've been every where I want to be barefoot. My favorite places are stores/malls - I love the feeling of the tiled floors!
