I think I hold back all my critsism of this forum cos' I maybe got to much to say and have found out i better just shut up??????
I agree there are good and bad ways of critiquing work, but this is an open public forum and I guess you have to expect an inarcticulate "this sucks" as well.. Some people say they want critism but what they really mean is they want some attention. I have gotten bad rep for saying things I believe, and I know I'm not the only one on this forum that has gotten heat for it. Here's the thing, and I'm not saying it should be run this way here, but just stfu and think about it...most serious poetry forums MAKE the posters respond to three other poems before they can even post one of their own. Why do you think they have to do that? How many other people's poetry have you posted to, commented on in this forum?? I know because I look at peoples posts to see if they even bother, and guess what...if they can't, I cannot be bothered as well! I'm sorry if you think that just because you decide to grace me with a poem, I'm supposed to take my valuable time to respond, when obviously your time is more valuable since you don't respond to others. I especially love this when some of the people that complain are extremely active in other forums. I've suggested they ought to post in the forums they are active in. THIS IS NOT DIRECTED TO ANYONE IN PARTICULAR SO PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS IS A GENERALIZATION OF COMPLAINTS I'VE HEARD OVER THE LAST 5-6 YEARS!! I'm reposting a comment I made to someone else within the last 5 months (like I said, there are some very common complaints) _______________________________________ ~* pffffffft! *~ what toadiness~! Try a few a these reasons on for size. 1) regulars have one, 1 thread and they post alla their stuff into it, at least not flooding everyone elses shit offa the front page, which brings me to the second reason 2) Lots of people are inconsiderate enough to flood several pieces of their work at one time, knocking everyone else off the page (I will not respond to these people) 3) I go straight to peoples work that I have found pleasurable, for one reason or another. MY reasons, don't give a rats ass if you liked their work, I may whereas you, may not 4) I went back to you threads to see if i had missed something. That fact is, whether its good or bad makes no difference to me, its just not what floats my boat. 5) If I see someone that has posted and hasn't made any responses to anyone elses work, I also will not bother with them. This has happened frequently around here over the years, people bitch and whine about getting no attention but they don't bother to give any either. Some people only reap what they sow. I have posted poems here and there over the years. Some get responses, others fall away. GET OVER IT!! Try putting yourselves out there to the hip forum community a bit more and maybe you will get more responses, not this whiney negative crap. Like the old expression goes " You catch more flies with honey" __________________
i agree, if you want attention set upon to you, do the same in return and give attention back. Recieving includes giving.
ty for understanding my point lil Fire-fly~* But your post was basically about the critique, and I guess that was a lil off point. Like has been said, sometimes ppl catch hell for saying what it is they don't like. It seems to have gotten better lately tho. I know I'm not as good at critiquing as others, and it's not always easy to give constructive critism in general. Hard at times to pinpoint exactly what needs to be said, and I think alotta people may pass by a poem instead of saying something they would consider negative.
ok... so your saying that people tend not to make comments because they may be negitive and taken the wrong way?
It's a lil more complicated than that. Thats one reason, one is some people would prefer to say nothing than to say something negative (not because of what others think, but because they themselves prefer not to leave a negative remark), another is that it's not always that easy to constuctively figure out what could use work and convey it in a critique, and another may be that the poem may be written well enough but the actual subject matter in the poem may not be to their liking.
personally i think people are too scared or just cant be bothered or dont have anything to actually say
