Well yeah, sure, if your criteria for "better" is the least number of pedophile cover-ups. If that's the case, then I suppose it's conceivable for someone to think of one pope as better than the other.

Yeah but since this is coming from Pope Francis, who is advocating the reduction in secrecy around the Roman Catholic Church, at least during his papacy the hypocrisy accusations against what he says don't hold up yet, it's too early.

We'll see what he is able to change, and then upon his natural passing we can rate his performance as hypocritical or not, or if his actions were genuine and he just had clashes with other powerful figures limiting his authority or what could've gotten done to heal the Catholic Church.

It is my opinion of scripture that any high religious figure (pastor, bishop, priest) LOSES their spirit of God from their body, and state of "Blamelessness" and therefore their divine ability to guide their flock of followers into salvation.

This is what I think Jesus meant by the blind leading the blind. At that point followers of any given church need to use critical thinking and detect when their religious guidance figure has lost the divine light.

But unfortunately religious followers (or the sheep figuratively speaking) follow blindly and don't really know how to balance a spark of rebelliousness and the idea of a hierarchy. They have tunnel vision about these concepts and to them they're mutually exclusive.

I'm warming to him, after initially not liking him much. He says he wants to reform the Catholic Church, shake things up a bit. I wish him luck in his mission. It will be interesting to see how things turn out.

It was definitely in need of a change in direction. Since the church's government is set up more or less as an absolute dictatorship, factions that prefer the status quo are going to have a hard time opposing him.

I've learned a lot about the Jesuit Order in recent months. From a Southern American viewpoint, their values and priorities are much closer to what we consider to be mainstream Protestant Christianity, compared to our image of Catholicism at large.

The priorities that Pope Francis is pushing seem to be mostly things that are not very controversial, even among religious people of other faiths, and among liberal humanitarians that are not religious at all.

A more problematic Roman Catholic Church has been the catalyst for a shift to the more Orthadox branches of Catholicism. Historically , pedos , financial scandal , nazism ,now an adovocate of revenue redistribution ; a collectivist kool-aider. No thanks.

I don't get what you're trying to argue with this post. I see Roman Catholic Church is a catalyst to shifting to more Orthadox branches of Catholicism but to what I can't make out from your post.

Yes, I think most people know of the hypocrisy of the church's platform of beliefs and their behavior and that financial scandal, pedos, and nazism, are all bad.

But to claim that the Church (any Christian religion Catholic or not) is not following the faith's tenants for advocating charity (what you call revenue redistribution), is not a fair accusation because it's consistent with scripture.

I mean the bible literally says that in order to reach a state of blamelessness and be forgiven, they have to "Sell all that they own..." -- Jesus of Nazareth.

(I believe Jesus was responding to a rich man who asked him how to get into heaven)

Scripture also says, that those who don't sell all that they own, will eventually lose it all by force anyway. (and this seems to be coming to pass)

So I don't know about you, but it kinda sounds like Jesus is saying that Christians should willingly sell all that they own while they still can, earn "Karma" points for their genuine heartfelt charity because if you don't God's masterplan takes everything from you anyway and you get no "good will from God", at the judgement because you were a jerk.

^(I am paraphrasing here though, but that does seem to be the overall tone and message of both the Old and New Testament, even into Revelation)

Anyway it's fair to say RIPTIDE that I don't think you're a Christian/Catholic, you seem to not agree with it's tenants to begin with which is your choice. But when you criticize the church you should know HOW to criticize it correctly.

Mine would never make it to the best posts of the list on this thread. My post perhaps was too value neutral as to the judgment of Politics above Religion a la Jaspers. Some kind of politics is claimed (even in a theist understanding of God directing the affaires of the secular world) to rule the 'social' manner of religious Faith.

Thus it seems to stand that the Ten commandments came out of Chaos in order to suit the difference from actually communicating them to the masses. Politically the pope would have to be correct to be in line (and fear) of humility over the Devil.:sunny:

We differ from Roman Catholics. The pope is no closer to the Creator than you or I. Although some would like to canonize this guy for encouraging stealing from the successful. Let's be candid. Don't steal. Successful folks help the inflicted when they want. They are very generous , when they see fit. It is not the role of organized religion to steal from the productive. If the pope wishes to gift the slackers of the world , let him donate from the vast amount of material wealth accumulated by the roman catholic church. Remember ; Thou shalt not steal.

Actually, the Pope has no earthly idea what he's talking about, and no clue on economics or history. He acts like it was MUCH fairer when ONLY the church and kings had money and power

"No economic system in history has alleviated more poverty, generated more opportunity and had more formerly poor people become rich than capitalism. And the essence of capitalism goes to the core of Catholic teaching: the personal freedom of every person."~Judge Andrew Napolitano~

Once again , astute observations from STP. roman Catholic clergy has for years been very austentatous while calling the flock "greedy". Personally , I have never seen any of these "robin hoods with collars" let any of their personal assets go to charities.

An opinion of a highly respected Judge. Is it me, or do Liberals just not care about the truth?

Yeah, it was an opinion- one based on facts, and the principles of this country. It's funny to me, you totally refused to talk about this when I typed up a response to you last time. You, like every Liberal here "Deny and deflect" while the failures of your forceful policies are ignored.

What I said- is before captalism, there was ONLY extremely wealthy, or very poor. The Catholic Church was one of the VERY wealthy ones, and the government. Liberals want the government to steal money from hard working individuals, to give it away to people who refuse to work, or give it to rich governments in other countries. This doesn't help the country, and that is one of the biggest fallacies of Liberalism.

But there are many more, and many hypocrisies you have boldly ignored. At least I can defend my beliefs- I don't have to resort to force or coersion to make people comply.

You've blatantly defended Obama MURDERING citizens, yet, you support government taking away guns. You are sound asleep in Obama's show; What you believe in sponsors the elite, and hurts the middle class gravely. Also, you're a fool if you think communism is more "fair" than capitalism. Communism is total government control, and always ends in only government having money.

At least I can defend my opinions. And btw, you're the prime example of the "strawmen" I diss on. You support extensive force to impose your will, and believe it's okay for government to be above the law and the Constitution.

This should show anyone what Liberalism is actually headed toward.

You're just mad because I see/expose Liberalism for what it is- a system of FORCE.

This struggle to control all the resources, people and money extant, has impelled me to send all the money I have and all I'll ever get to the military industrial complex. "They're" dragging the grab out too long. Let's just get it done quickly. Let's see--maybe an oil company. Or GE. It's getting old hearing about the constant struggle to keep a little money. They MUST need our money more than we do, so let's just give 'em what they're striving for.

Or alternatively: the times a'comin motherfuckers.

    Opinion = truth.
    LOL, no.

Yes, I personally have implemented these policies because I hate your country. I also love murder.

Was the pope disagreeing with you?

I think you've said this before.

I'm forcing you to agree with me now?
Wow, sounds like I'm a really bad guy.

    None of this happened.

Yep, you've said this before too.

You've definitely said THAT before... I think within this exact post.
    And no I don't.

    Nice poster! It's really big.
