in shitty porn, sure. that doesn't mean that porn is categorically degrading to women though, just that there is a lot of porn that is. i watch a decent amount of porn, but only the stuff where both parties are enjoying it (or at least pretending to).
Can it be degrading to women if they agree to it in the first place? I mean, if they didn't do it in the first place, there'd be no degredation. If a tree fallsin the woods and no one's around to hear it... Sometimes I ask my girlfriend to do dishes. If she agrees because she wants the outcome (clean kitchen) that's fine. Yet if I forced her to because I felt that was her role as a female, degrading (agreeably). The women in porno agree to do what they do. They are not forced or raped. They want the outcome (money and possibly notoriety). Yes, sometimes men do degrade them I'm sure. Do they deserve it? Maybe not, that's another thread. However, they put themselves in that position. Not that I'm defending anyone who degrades anyone else. I've heard this argument before; men who go to strip clubs degrade women by watching them strip. A) One can assume many women who strip feel pretty good about themselves and their self image. I.E. They know they're attractive. B) Buying a product (time viewing nudity) doesn't degrade anyone except maybe oneself. C) The women who do this want money, they don't do it for reasons of self respect. D) They couldn't be objectified by anyone if they didn't put themselves in such situations in the first place. Of course, I make this argument respectfully, not with malice. This is just how I see it.
I agree. I'm trying to cut back. although those expectations are unrealistic, I don't think it means sex should necessarily not be as good as in porn. It should be better in fact; but more tender, and less violent. But yeah sex should be even better than porn. I tried not jerking off for a month and I found i got better marks and had more energy. Not jerking off + eating raw cannabis makes u into ubermensch. I usually jerk off to get to sleep, but I find i don't need to do it as much when i am getting laid (or even just am thinking of fucking a particular girl). I'm not saying it's degrading to the specific woman choosing to be in the porn film because ultimately they did choose that for themselves. I'm saying that I find the portrayal of women in pornography to be degrading to females. I myself am offended by this portrayal. Also, I don't know everyone's story who chooses to be in porn, but my educated guess is that many of these women have been sexually abused and so they choose this path. Though maybe some enjoy being in porn. I really don't know. I don't think it's fair to say that someone always chooses their path or career, sometimes people are kind of forced into it. Just like someone who works in fast food, for example, and they don't want to be there, but maybe they don't have many other options. Maybe someone who grew up in an unstable home with no education winds up in porn and they feel like it's the only thing they're good at. ps: Do your own dishes

But, what about it, or how, does the portrayal of women in porno degrade you? In what way is it a commentary on any and every self respecting woman. Or any woman who isn't the one in the movie for that matter? I'm not quite understanding this. How it affects you. About the path and whether or not they choose it... I've wondered this before. I'm sure many in porno got there by some sort of slew of terrible "jobs" they only got because they were willing to do certain things perhaps because their self worth and potential to develop it was robbed from them at a young age. Not to get off topic, but there's been an increase in the number of girls in the sex trade around here the last couple of years. Not only that, but often the majority of them (as stated when a bust makes the news) are only 13 to 15 year old girls. It's sad and fucking disgusting to hear this. Furthermore what's sad is that many of these girls do end up continuing to "work" in the field because of the money, lack of direction (often parents are never around), and force (whoever is their primary caregiver, often is responsible for their prostitution). So yes, they don't choose this path per se for reasons of money and fame, but often stay for reasons of force, lack of self worth, and emotional damage. And, I would do my own dishes, but my lady's tiny female hands are much better at getting in glasses and scrubbing those nasty spaghetti stains off plates...
