Largest Roach Contender

I came into the office in Miami and found one particularly large roach, belly up on the floor. Somehow, it seemed a bit larger than usual so I laid a ruler next to him and took a pic.



Turns out he is 1.75 inches long and when I checked online I found he coulda been a contender in a Largest Roach Contest. The winner of such contest in 2011, as reported in the Orlando Sentinel was in Apopka Florida, at 1.75 inches. There was a mention of Tucson Arizona's "Largest Cockroach" in 1997 at a mere 1.73 inches. Either they are much larger in Florida or they are getting larger in the past decade.

So, along with the worst drivers, the most fatal lightening strikes and most shark attacks, Florida may be the record holder of the largest roaches.

 

Yikes, another reason why South Beach is perhaps in the top 10 worst places, ever.

 

Sometimes you just see things that aren't right. Makes you wonder who made the original mistake and who signed off on it and who never reported that Parallel does not really mean Perpendicular.

This is at our new Publix Supermarket at Collins Ave. and 69 Street on Miami Beach.

 

Well, the terms "parallel" and "perpendicular" describe the relative positions of two objects.

Usually parallel parking means cars are parallel to a curb, though if the cars are side by side, they are parallel to one another.

 

But the sign is on the wall, which to normal ppl indicates you should park parallel to it.

 

Well that, plus usually parallel parking means parallel to a curb.

They should just have the parking space lines painted in, like every other fucking store parking lot.

 

I originally thot the sign on the wall was wrong but today I found some faded lines on the pavement that indicate they seriously wanted a few cars to parallel park.

But, the creative drivers on Miami Beach decided to head-in park so more cars could be by the door. So, here is the more accurate caption on the pic.

 

In case anyone else wonders about the way I spell Foto.
