It was just such a joyous occasion and for it to end the way it did was quite a shock.

Even after the explosion it took some time to process what was going on, and I remember at least one reporter was holding out hope
that one large piece of the debris might be the crew module, and might be recovered.

That was before the days of bringing in hordes of school counselors to help kids deal with the shock, so we sucked it up and moved on.
