Well, it already depends about which period of the SS we are talking. I'm sure you agree that the early SS members were not 99% ordinary soldiers. They were selected by specific criteria (incl. motivation and ideology).

I'm not solely coming from that eggagerated perspective. But one doesn't have to be evil to be guilty of war crimes. Often it is just following orders.. There's something in between how you are trying to downplay their role and nastiness (and most got mixed in some of the nastiness simply by joining this fascist force) and this portrayal of consciously evil stormtroopers (which does count for a certain amount of SS-ers of course. It's not based on nothing). So... just because a lot of people from the occupied territories and other volunteers also committed war crimes on the german side and helped the nazi cause doesn't mean the majority of the SS didn't.

Seems to depend who we ask. I'm pretty sure they were already seen as ruthless, immoral and cruel back then. They also got the better equipment at times, at expense of the regular wehrmacht.

Once again: this just means that there were a lot of war crimes committed. It doesn't render the majority of the SS innocent. Actually, it doesn't really say a lot about what the SS did in this regard. If these other groups were instructed and/or placed under the SS the SS is partly responsible for the atrocities of these groups!

Pretty save to assume some of them were also war criminals. Just saying: it's just as silly to conclude none of them were as the opposite.

I wasn't busy with labeling them anything but a soldier or war criminal. I'm just saying that how well they may have lived after the war doesn't change shit about the actual war crimes they might have committed. You seem to make a point that it does.
Ok, I'm gonna quit now because it gets lengthy and i could go on and on. If you feel I skipped something that is crucial to your post or essential to your expanding on this (which is appreciated except maybe not by others as its in the Post a pic thread) and this seems unfair or something, maybe say so. I'm happy to adress.
I think since we keep expanding on this next time we should just start a separate thread about it (also eliminates the need for repeating ourselves).
