No. I'm saying that I cannot think of a single possible way in which a psychologist or a counselor can help when it comes to dealing with problems or addiction.

i agree... maybe not for the same reason as you but i just think if your having issues, spilling your heart to another being who probably has issues of his or her own isn't going to do you much good. i believe that you have a problem you should write it down in a journal or something and try to overcome it urself

They can help impoverish an addict who then will not be able to afford the drugs. Pretty damned effective therapy if you ask me!

I think that sharing your problems can be good for some people, even though I do not like imposing my problems on other people. I've had plenty, and I have always handled them meself.

But man, if you're going to talk about your problems, talk to a friend or someone who actually cares about you and knows you...

    Not a shrink.

i'm the type who tries to keep my problems to myself as well... unless i'm having an issue with someone i'll just keep it in my own mind and try to just deal with it myself... then if i can't then i go crying to a friend

Some people need someone to talk to. Some addiction is an acting out, and isn't a chemical addiction. There is something in the person's life that is causing the behaviour, and the soultion has clouded the problem. They need someone on the outside to give them the tools to battle the addiction. No counselor can make an addict stop. All they can do is provide the means. Then it is up to the addict to use the tools.
