i just saw it being the start of a long argument i've had with other atheists SO many times that i thought i'd kinda nip it in the bud, i have to be up early tomorrow lol
Really? It was only after 500 comments that I decided to speak up for the meekest among us. You know, the ones that Jesus told us to notice and love? I wouldn't call that quick. :sunny: QP
You're right. It's mostly in other threads that you speak badly of gays, addicts, and anybody that does not worship the latest Pope. QP
It is not ok for bigots who use religion as a reason to hate on others at all. You seem to like to project that on all religious followers but the majority of them do not bother other people. So if you mean a specific group or person you should nuancate if you can. We all judge others accordingly to what we think anyway, this is in no way limited to religious people.
Every day in every way. I believe ethics meaure a man's/woman's worth. And to claim to love Jesus (while judging others) is a contradiction in terms big time. :sunny: QP
Every human judges. Also people that claim to love Jesus. You judged people and religion in this thread. It becomes a big deal when someone else takes it the wrong way. In this case you did. For instance where you projected lack of compassion onto Piaf but she merely claimed people like Janis Joplin couldn't be an inspiration for her. I am not even sure what she said in other threads though but since I saw more posts of her I find the things you say here about Piaf doubtful. Perhaps you read too much in some other posts as well? Excuse me for all the off topic blabbering by the way. I at first joined in because I as well thought that picture of war and religion was wrong and certainly uninspirational but I guess your replies just kept asking for a response
I appreciate your patience regarding this quite disturbing matter. Here's where Piaf and I will forever disagree upon (which is sad): 1. She has clearly stated in other threads that gays should not be allowed to legally marry. 2. She is absurdly critical of addicts and other lost souls that have chosen to take their own lives (the people that Christ instructed us to have the most compassion for). 3. She has this obscene belief that she is better educated and superior in intelligence - compared to most other HF members. She even brags about it from time to time. So where's the humility? That's one of the things that Christ instructed us to practice as best we can. I value humility and compassion much more than intelligence. Brilliant people often do godawful things in life: It is only when intelligence is combined with humility and compassion that a person can make the world a more beautiful place. This is wisdom. So this is why I finally could no longer remain silent while Piaf judged harshly gays, addicts, suicides, illiterate folks, and people that are "lazy" in her dubious opinion. I mean, who died and made her God? BTW, I am not an atheist. I lean more towards Buddism, but also have great admiration for Mother Teresa and Thomas Merton. That's another reason I think it is sad that Piaf considers me a sinner because I am gay. I am certain she admires Mother Teresa as much as I do. So we do have something in common. Yet I have read too many of her homophobic posts for comfort. I believe Jesus existed (and respect him immensely), but I think Christianity has very little to do with Christ: Most people have warped his beautiful words, and the Bible is used more as a weapon to harm and hate, instead of being a guide on how we can all love one another. So let's be clear on that: I admire Christ big time, but keep a safe distance from most Christians. Anyway, I appreciate you giving me the chance to better explain why I feel most religious people (and not religion) are a mistake. I have known too many atheists that put Christians to shame big time (when it comes to humility and compassion). QP
