    "colder than an eskimo's arse"

    haha i like that!!!

I was gonna say the Irish seem a little warmer than the Welsh and Scottish (in general) but didnt wanna offend you.....

Flint ..... dont know that...will check it out though...hmmmm.....a castle....good smoking sessions.....hmmm.....did you go down into the dungeons....

We have "sessions" in Ireland...it means something different though. If ye hear someone say "are ye coming to the session" it means a music session. I sing in em and play fiddle a little...its great craic (fun not the other stuff lol)...fecking hell its a whole new language to the non Irish...having to explain it is funny too.....

I think the opposite is true of the above....

I am very very in touch with reality....oh my.....i dont do any substances at all!! One of the things I get told the most when I receive healing is how in touch I am with myself and everything.

After training for years as a healer..... I have discovered the only way to channel in the truth is to be clear of any substances....

Just my experience over the last 20 years or so..

Working with pot smokers,,,they are the ones that are the least in touch with their feelings and emotions....they just think they are....the reality is clouded because they are removed from themselves...

Why do you think Buddhist monks live a very clean and substance free life....it is to gain clarity and enlightenment....

    Just my findings.....carry on guys...

    :)

Reality is such a hazy subject, even without pot involved. I love to toke, and although I'm not sure if it brings you closer or further from reality, it definately makes me think, experience and look at things in different ways.
So long as you enjoy it and don't smoke your brains away it doesn't really matter to me to which part of reality it takes you. I do agree with sex-banshee though, that for the clearest views (that last for longer then one second, haha) on truth and reality, you have to be sober.

"""that for the clearest views (that last for longer then one second, haha) on truth and reality, you have to be sober"""........

As dull as sobriety may seem to many.....and as painful as it may feel.....

like Asmodean says, it is the only true way to truth.....

i suppose the hardest thing to do is come out of denial....which involves the ego and the breaking down of it...

    not easy....I know.

I swear, contemplating life like this in a deadly serious state of mind wondering 'what is reality?' and the like can drive or man (or woman) to the brink of mental discomposition.
These thoughts are better left unthought about.
After all, in society's World, these thoughts are kinda breached aside..

    hmmmm....

but one doesn't have to assume a deadly serious state of mind to arrive at a conclusion.

A lot of my musings are done when feeling light and happy.....

I just get that aaaaahhhhh........yeah.........aaaaaahhhhhhh.....yeah thing...

Luckily I have little Saturn influence in my chart....so the heaviness of the stereo typical "deep thinker" takes little toll on me...

It is most often done with a smile dancing around my lips....

Almost an elfin energy some have said...

Wouldn't have thought that would be the reason to stop you from thinking about it.

While I don't disagree that being clean and clear of substances is one of the best ways to reach truth, I had to reply and say that it certainly isn't the only way.

Truth is what you make of it. To call one way the "only" way, to me, undermines the possible realities of others. The clean/sober way to Truth may be the only way for you, but it may not be for another, as "Truth" is a very personal term.

I, myself, have been of both mindsets in my life... Clear/Sober AND Substance induced... And I have found that they both highly compliment each other in my life. Before I had ever touched a substance in my life, I was much more distant from the Truth, and Life. I was very judgemental and angry when it came to life.

Then, after I had started using different substances (i.e. Pot, Ecstacy, lsd, shrooms, etc.), I found that my mind became clear of those judgements and I felt much more aware of the underlining Love within Life and others.

Now, I am at the point in my life where I hardly touch any substance besides pot, and I feel very in tune with Love, Life, and Truth. I understand, now, how a clearer mindset is sought after, as I understand how mind altering substances intoxicate the mind's consciousness. But if it weren't for those substances to begin with I don't think I would be as in tune as I feel today.

Does that mean I am saying everyone should use drugs to find Truth? Absolutely not. I am saying that Life (God) works in mysterious ways, and has the ability to show the Truth to anyone who seeks it thru any measure necessary. For me, being a very agnostic-based person (having to see something to believe it), I needed the drugs to SHOW me a different form of reality in order to gain a faith in that which I don't understand and can't see. Now that I have that faith, I understand that I no longer need the drugs to keep it.

So you see... Life, Reality, Truth, etc. is all in the Mind of the Beholder. ;-)

Wow....what an amazing and eloquent post!!!

    Thanks....

Yes I understand where you come from....

I found it interesting that you speak of your found faith and the need not to take drugs...

Maybe that is why I didnt find using them any help....cos my faith in the universal force was there for as long as I can remember...

Its strange because I was always very very wary of taking anything which would alter the way i thought and felt....

I am realising that some of us may have a need to use substances to bring faith closer..[or at least think we need to]?

It also interests me that a lot of folk I met along the way ended up having serious drug problems....again another manifestation not to indulge...maybe...?

    Interesting for sure...

Mate, society is a subject which I couldn't give a monkey's left bollock about.
Fact is, we live in it.

    No, quite the opposite actually.
Too much pot makes you loose touch with reality IMO.

'Too much' is always bad. Just don't smoke too much then. Great thing about weed: even if you smoke too much at one evening, it won't fuck you up for live. :)

I know, I know. But I don't see why that's a good reason not to think about reality, sober, stoned or in whatever way.

I agree with you whole-heartedly! My wife, back when we were still just dating, only started branching out and trying different substances (besides pot) with me, because I wanted her to experience new things with me.

But, before that, and still to this day, she has always had a VERY strong faith that is absolutely unalterable! She has never needed any substances to change her faith, nor has any substance done that.

It's funny you say this. I didn't try any drugs until I was about 21 (and I'm only 25 now), and before that I was a major anti-drug advocate. However, being as such made me very judgemental towards those who did drugs. And, not only that, I had a major temper problem. In my wife's words... I was a major asshole... at least until I had a life changing experience (drugs being the catalyst).

And you're also right about the line "or at least think we need to." I was one of those. I knew I needed to change, I didn't know what I should do, so I decided that maybe I could find something new in broadening my horizons. I realize now, that it wasn't the actual drugs that changed me, but rather, it was being able to release those pent-up emotions within me that I wasn't aware of. And that is what the drugs allowed me to do.

I tend to see the same thing in many people I have known as well. Which, I believe, is one of THE biggest reasons why one should always be very careful when considering drugs. If I didn't have the strong personality and will that I have, I can completely understand how the drugs I tried could have taken over my world, causing me to become dependent.

The feeling of Pure Love and Happiness is intoxicating and infectous, and I can see how one can easily become addicated to wanting/needing the intoxicants to keep those feelings alive for those who are not used to those feelings w/o the mind altering intoxicants.

For me, I would always just continue to remind myself to remember the personal lesson within each experience I had (which were the feelings of Love and Happiness I got), but I made sure I kept concious awareness that I was on a drug and that the feelings were temporary when induced by the drug.

So, with that, I was able to come to a better understanding of obtaining those feelings of Love and Happiness w/o the mind altering substabnces. Then, once I had a MUCH better understadning, thats when I started using some more hallucinagenic drugs to reach for a better understanding of consciousness itself. But now, I am in the position where I believe I have discovered most of what I can discover while using intoxicants, and am starting more on the world of clear/sober meditation. =D

So that's just a small glimpse of my history and how one person in this world was able to come to a positive outcome with drugs.

(Disclaimer:: In no way am I advocating the path I took as being the right, or only path. hehe)

    Hi Asmodean,

In my opinion, you should think about reality in whatever way you want, for your reality is purely personal to you. The only word of caution I would throw in would be to make sure you don't dwell on your reality to the point of becoming paranoid about it.

I have seen many friends do the latter, and it's not fun to watch others get to that point. But, other than that, your reality is your reality, make of it what you will. ;-)
