But presidents across the globe are icons of peaceful and even-handed rule? I apologise Mama-no unpleasantness meant, but I served as a ROYAL Marine,so our views will differ somewhat. I'll leave it there hon.
well, the monarchy is a joke, nothing new there. at least now they're showing a bit of self-awareness. so Harry's acting like a spoiled entitled prick. who's surprised? That's LITERALLY what he is (well, can't speak for the prick part so much, maybe he's alright.) you don't have to abolish the monarchy VIOLENTLY, i wish them no ill health, must be a bit of a headache to be under such constant public scrutiny and not be able to waive your role, and must be completely shit to grow up with that sort of weird semi-responsibily hanging over your shoulders "nothing you do matters. but you must do it PERFECTLY or you'll be letting down the whole country" but I'll never support an institution like the monarchy. How can you possibly hope to achieve any form of equality when your head of state is decided entirely through nepotism?
I think his prick is saying he's rather glad to be restricted to choosing between any number of gorgeous leggy women who want to be Princesses.
Don't all the princes fuck shit up? Who cares? If I was a prince I'd fuck shit up too. And I'd get fucked up as shit too. And I'd have a jolly time in general. Who cares what anyone thinks of anything? That's their problem.
to be fair to him, this kind of behavior is part of the reason we re-instated the monarchy in the first place
Why judge all royal family as a whole? I think he behaves pretty normal too for the situation he's in.
I've enjoyed this subject immensely over the past few days I was at a BBQ last night amongst some people who were venting their anger over having to fit the bill for the £5k a night (and supposed £30k bill) because they are tax payers. I've read complaints in papers about the cost to the tax payer of Harry's antics too. Whether or not the royals have any right to be there is an entirely different matter, Hazzer's antics are actually harming nobody, including the tax payer. Well, it's probably upsetting the queen a bit. What interested me even more last night, was that those against the monarchy didn't even seem to know why they were against the monarchy. I don't know much about it myself, but the excuse of assets and costs is a large one. Which is funny, because those who use that excuse haven't a clue about what is privately owned, and how much the monarchy is costing us, or how they benefit us financially, if at all. A royal family is such a funny concept when you think about it. My argument is just that they've no right to be there, regardless of whether or not I like them. I do wish I could be a princess though. I'd wear diamond tiaras and silk gowns every day.
It does seem to be that nobody likes them but everybody wants to BE them. The one time England had a self-elected ruler rather than a hereditary one, that ruler banned Christmas Dancing Alcohol Sport Theatres Make-up Coloured Clothing on women... ..and we won't even BEGIN to talk about the damage he did to Ireland! With a hereditary Royal Family,we have a Prime Minister to govern the country, and an Opposition to keep him in check. The Monarch is titular head of state only, and acts as stabilisation for a Commonwealth. Membership of that commonwealth isn't compulsory. Currently there are 44 nations on this planet that have monarchs. 2 of those are 'absolute' monarchs, the rest are constitutional. I don't notice anyone dissing them? Our British monarch has ceremonial duties but merely reserve powers,as a safeguard against Parliament being 'taken out' by disaffected elements while sitting, leaving the country without government,be it titular or actual. It's a thankless job, being a monarch. Yes,I HAVE met her, twice. I've also met Princess Anne several times-and they really are just people, doing their best to do a job they were born into, have to do with dignity and reverence, can not just walk away from, has enormous stresses, plus leaves them open to ridicule and badmouthing with no right of reply. So if Harry, who is 27 and single, and lives every day of his existence with the threat of assassination or kidnap over him or any member of his family and the knowledge that at some point he may have to step up to a position that will destroy any personal freedom he may crave, wants to party while he can-a PRIVATE party btw-then bloody good luck to him.
I don't even entirely get the purpose of the royal family? I was under the assumption that they had no real power whatsoever? They more or less just seem like a rich family that gets to keep the title of "royalty" for the sake of their countries history. Sure the monarchy used to have mass amounts of power... but now? Nothing really.. It's all just kind of for show, isn't it? Unless i'm wrong.. i know nothing about it.. I'm still baffled as to why we even put the queen on our money here in Canada.. And she's our head of state? If the queen has no power in her own country, why the hell should she even pretend to have any in ours?
