That makes an okay point on the emotional part, but it is still proven that they can feel physical pain... But you can't prove that we feel emotions completely now, can you? We can say and have reactions like crying and such, but is it possible to prove, PHYSICALLY, that we have emotions? Forgive me if thwere is an obvious answer there, I got off a busy day of work a few hours ago and it is almost 1 AM here so I am not thinking 100%...

Well, I will grant you the whole lack of willingness to debate [it is just past midnight here as well]. BUT, reaction to stimulus isnt proof of sensation of pain or higher brain funtions.

Doesn't the fact of having a nervous system (you mentioned this) show anything though? If they have a nervous system, isn't there a possiblity that they can feel pain? By the way it isn't IF they can feel pain, it is when because we know that they do feel pain at birth (they cry when they get blood drawn, stuff like that) and this isn't something that is going develope as they are born, So we have to know that pain receptors ARE developed sometime BEFORE birth, but it seems that neither of us know WHEN it is... I think I used to know, but I forgot.

sensing pain and perceiving pain are two different thigns...

Hypothetically, i can feel a super hot stove, but if my brain doesn't function propery, I can leave it there thinking it is room temperature [but then the pain receptors will notify me of the pain regardless of temperature, but it is an example of sensations and perception]

Also what might come into play is the rest of the bodily systems. What about lungs and circilatory systems? If the baby had been born at time of abortion with nolungs, it would die anyways. Is a fetus with no structures to live a human? is it alive, or kinda like what i virus is, living off other cells [or in this case person] And YES, I will apologise for the horrid image in that analoy of a baby being a virus

Sorry Chuck. Fetuses don't breathe - there is no air in the womb. All their oxygen comes through the umbelical cord.

As another aside, the only thing to ever have a proven cause and effect relationship with decreasing crime is legalizing abortion. Legalize abortion, and 17 years later crime decreases.

But really - how can we have both an over-population problem and an abortion problem at the same time?

i think we should let God decide and if God is letting people get abortions, then it must
    be o.k. with him

America was founded on freedom of your own choices.
Im pro choice because its every persons decision what to do w/ his/her body.
Besides theres too many ppl in the world as it its.

its a shame that you have such little regard human life chris. what does it matter if the fetus feels pain? you re still stealing the childs life. it still could have been somthing. what if someone had killed you and the said it is of no consequence that this little boy is dead becuase he couldnt feel the pain when we killed him. what the fetus does and doesnot feel have no bearing on wheather it is right or it is wrong. and revulvar if u call raving major bullshit on the stat thats youre opionion but have you ever talked to a women who had an abortion and truly regretted it? wheather u agree with the "stats" is not really the issue.

I am pro-choice....I don't like abortion, and I do think there should be a limit on how many (so lazy people don't use it as birth control...)

BUT, I don't want the government telling me what I am allowed to do with my own body. Give them an inch, they will take a mile...

I agree with everything you said. I'm pro-choice, too, but I don't think abortion should be used as a sort of birth control. It should be used as a last resort and only as a last resort. And the government part is true, too. If you even let them think they can control your body then they'll do it and they'll do whatever they want to then. So might as well fight now before it's too late, right? Let people make their own decisions, they're capable of it unless otherwise stated.

It could have been something. What a statement. All the little working class kids that are screwed over by the system could have been something, but the chances are, they wont amount to that. do we want more people that could have been something, but wont be, being brought into the world unwanted??? No!

What difference would it make if i wasnt here now, if i had never been here. it would have no impact. If i had been aborted, would i mind. Logically the answer is no. Would the parent mind? well why the hell would they go through with it if they didnt want one.

And i do believe statistics is an issue. You cannot disregard fact, and say that fact isnt the issue. that absurd.

don't you consider your stance to be hypocritical because you were given choice whether to become a hippie or not and now you don't want to give someone choice whether to have a baby or not?
