Dragon: check out my albums. I don't have enough yet to put it on a ponytail.... my hair grows QUITE slowly. hellodreadhead: the union says it's unfair and discriminatory. i'm waiting for their official input as of now.
If the solution they present is a hat, and then there's a rule for your particular area saying no hats, you're home free....
This is me @ the time of starting this thread. Not LONG, "disturbing" dreads I believe.... just enough to piss my bald boss. (sorry I really don't know how to make 'em in thumbnails like Crimson does....)
Chances are they've noticed your dreads because of your beads.. Or they've targeted you because the beads look unprofessional. I would take them out and see if they notice the hair. I also think you could be reading too much into the email, they didn't say dreads specifically, I mean they're so short, I don't see why an employer would make an issue out of them.
no. they DID mentioned Dreadlocks specifically in the body of the email. What I just pasted in bold in my first post was a copy of the OFFICIAL hair/dress code included in the email as a .PDF attachment. That's how I know is a direct attack from my boss, or my boss' boss. They are including specifics, not in the official document (revised by human resources), but just in MY department. That's why it's illegal. oh and i had this beads from them beginning. (8 months ago?) ...and NOW they're noticing? please......
get a top hat, they dont specify what hat you have to wear so in the event you have to cut your hair, protest with rediculous hats
You can have visible tattoos at a post office, have tattoos in the military, but at a job where you don't get seen by customers and you're hair is barely dreaded, and they give you a hard time? I'll never get somethings. Personally, I live off a lot less so that these things don't happen and I could live off jobs that aren't so picky (I know that doesn't work for everyone). Also, my husband has longer hair than most girls at his job and when they tried to give him a hard time, he counted with "The rules of hair must apply to both girls and boys, so if you're telling me I'm not allowed long hair (at a fine dining restaurant), than the female workers should also be told no long hair." They shut up quick. By chance, are you the only person with dreads at your job?
I'd make a case of being singled out. I don't claim to have an inkling of the laws in Puerto Rico, but can you make any claims of being discriminated against? Do you keep in your piercing? I worked for Salvation Army (thrift store) and if you know anything about Salvation Army, their policies are, gah.. horrible. They kept trying to single me out for my dreads and piercing and I said "If my job performance is affected by it, I'll take them out. If customers complain, then so be it and I'll take them out". I received no complaints from customers (the opposite actually), but I ended up leaving anyways. Who wants to stay in a place where you're not allowed to marry outside the company? If there isn't much you can do, is it possible to find another job? Or risk being a martyr? Are there other more open places? If you feel this is a direct attack to you by your boss, can you do something about that?
If you are an officer in Salvation Army, you are not allowed to marry outside of the company. I want to say 2-3 years ago was this huge thing about this one guy getting married to a lady outside the organization and they were like "NO WAY!! We have rules!!!. found some sites on it.. ah.. 2008.. yes.. it's Fox news.. but yeah http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,462684,00.html http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/45717307.html From there own website "However, at present, Salvation Army officers have to marry other officers if they wish to remain in the ministry*. Salvation Army officer-marriages are a partnership, and in local centres in particular this joint ministry can make the work more effective." Also their "degayification".. yeah.. worked with someone who had to go through that. He was just a miserable bastard. didn't like girls, but couldn't like guys.. yep..
whoa..... that's a fucked up rule for salvation army. =\ and yeah, i've been working with full earrings for 4 years.
My MIL was raised Salvation Army and her and FIL were married by a Captain of the Salvation Army. It's like being Lutheran with a STRONG influence on community service.
i know. i already worked on one for 2 years.... i work @ a nocc now. the administration is trying to convert it to a call center tho..... which sucks.
i didn't realize they actually had "captains" of the salvation army. i guess i'll stick with goodwill.
