I too was an enthusiastic embracer of permaculture when I first heard about a few years ago.Actually there have been some permaculture disasters in Australia -where permaculture first started- with some culitvated plants doing so well that they have turned into weeds.

Permaculture is an study that has not been ended yet. I mean, even though it went wrong there several in country working perefectly and if it went wrong is due to the lack of attention with the land and th e plants...what I think is amazing about permaculture is that the model of crops is not taken by our needs but from the needs of the plants.

Of course different species cross all the time but it does take a while for them to change in nature the way we hve been changing them in laboratories. Something else to be said is that even though you kept wathcing the development of six or seven rops of soy that does not mean you know what are the consequences for the soil and the whole envirnment around.

Is not only that romantic thing about maother nature being perfect...for me it is specially recognizing that all the other species are balanced by their environment and we on the other hand have no other control left but our conscience.

Hybrid palents are very different from GMO...tottally, it happens in another level and if it were to have the same results we would bedoing this instead of taking a lot o money to do it in laboratories...one thing is not even comparable to the other.

And o yeah...the seeds are sterile...what makes us always the buyers of the seeds, I mean, you dont produce it anymore you will have to buy it each crop you plant...it is not ok with me! I dont want to lie on the food industry or the new technology..thanks.

Well..that would be all. I believe we should change our mind from the perspective of buyers o the perspective of producers...being resposible for each step of our existence...this idea is based on the dessapointment with the human kind and the fact is...I cant find it right.

I see your point, I admitt you guys are rong about these effects we are having in our society but I wonder - when are we gonna see we cannot have children because each human being born produces from 6 to 10 ton of trash?
When are we gonna see we cannot just kep on taking from the pplanet, but we have to keep the reasonable realtion wich is both giving and receiving?
When are we gonna see we cannot let our happiness be based on having?

Thats all people...and if I were rude be sure I never meant it.

    Peace!

Gee. Who would have guessed YOU & ME would have something in Common with the "Quakers" and "Mennonites" of the Eastern U.S., and the Native American peoples. Even the people in the Far East, know resources are limited. It's just that not enough are acting on it.

First of all, where did this "cutting down of forests" and "super gm meat" come from??

You say that there is "enough land, and there is nothing wrong with it"... the Green Revolution has helped save millions of acres of forests and savannas. GMOs are designed to produce higher yields while using less land. So what does this mean? It means we are able to conserve what's left of the wilderness of the world, but only with the help of GMOs. If we use (or continue to use like many third world countries) all organic methods of agriculture, we will be forced to expand farmland into the beautiful forests and mountainous areas simply because the low yields on the land we are currently using will not meet the demands of population growth. With GMOs we can continue to use the land we have already cultivated and produce much higher yields. It is the only way we can possibly keep up with the current population growth rate, especially in third world countries--that is, if we want to save the trees.... Also, with the help of GMOs we can help turn third world countries into self sustaining, developed nations rather than continuing to *try* to feed starving people with crop yields from developed nations like the U.S. and U.K.

I'd like to say a lot more, but I'll wait until someone responds in opposition (hopefully no one does!!), otherwise I could write an entire book on GMOs and its countless, potential benefits.
