I'm not quite sure what British people you've met, but they're extremely retarded. Of course the British have a history of invasion, colonisation, et cetera. We were the biggest Empire in the world, and we certainly didn't do that by means civilised negotiations. We've wiped out tribes and were the founders of the African Slave Trade; by tradition we're probably the most savage race of the post-Christian times. I don't think I'm ignorant, and I try to be as realistic as possible. On terms of military, the British are probably the most respected in the world due to the notoriousness of the Empire. I would also say that we're of the most trained and capable Army and forces next to the German's. We have a first class Force that's steeped in tradition.
Agreed. And yes, my British friends here in mundane suburbia are transplanted chavs, more or less. Now my Irish friends... they pour you full of Red Breast and then ask you what you think of Bush. Talk about lighting a fuse...
Well, I'm Welsh, so I probably have a more realistic approach to the British Empire, seeming they started off with us and killed most of our Celtic heritage and tribes.
I am dluthadh to a tuath of Iron Age Celts so I know all about that. But you have to blame Gaius for most of that, since he took Gaul, then Albion. If you want to call someone barbaric, we Celts invented and used soap 1,000 years before Romans stopped washing their clothing in vats of urine. Addoed at Rhufain!!!
OK, back to the thread... has anyone heard of 'operation bite'? google it. and the russians say were building troops around the border. were suppoused to raid iran good friday, this friday, at 4am.
Yes, com on evereone, let us all go and wave some red flags at the politicians as they take us to the brink of nuclear war then afterwards we can all feel thrilled that at least we tried to stop it. Better idea, go to my place and buy a bigmac and fries and chill while you still can. You wont stop a war, these people are beyond reason and too powerful, they dont care what you sayand in foreign countries they are told that the demonstrations are pro government supporters that got a bit carried away. Chill out doods and relax with your friends You are going to look very stupid when that doesnt happen
That is most utter falsehood in the history of hipforums. The Usa gave no help whatsoever and Britain never went to the usa for help the planes you are talking about were cargo planes. The bombers were refuelled by air to air transports and the fighters were refuelled onboard the ships. Those pussy whimps at the pentagon and the whitehouse were too worried incase argentina invaded the USA and the Usa's generals were still wearing their wifes dresses when the British attacked port stanley http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falklands_war
Control. That seems to be the keyword. Control meaning to say, acquisition, maintenance of power to exploit weaker, less developed lands and cultures. Sorry, but your British Empire, both the old and the uhm, "Commonwealth", just like American Empire and imperialism, was built on the blood, sweat, tears and suffering of untold human beings. On a positive note, there were some benefits to the spread of British culture. The Beatles for one, maybe. Let's just be realistic and mature enough to understand why other people around the world view "empires" and imperialism, including the American/British kind rather less affectionately.
You basically just said everything I already have. Stop arguing with me and pretending you have something to argue about. I've never claimed that the United Kingdom is the best, but I'm just giving the realistic FACTS, whereas you seem to be giving facts to try and be confrontational.
So you were in the RAF in 1982? No wait, you were still in nappies in 1982. So you don't know WTF you're talking about. Thatcher assured Reagan that Britain had the situation under control, Weinberger offered two aircraft carriers under the condition that it not be public knowledge but Thatcher declined. When the US offered logistical support Thatcher accepted. We provided inflight refueling and anti-aircraft missiles that were scheduled for decommissioning. Look it up. And I know this because I was assigned to the 410th Bombardment Wing in 1982, our tanker aircraft flew sorties in support of more than just your Vulcans, you had MANY aircraft involved.
Fi Heddwyn. Fy brwydr diwedd. Gwyn ei fyd hedd. Fy Cymraeg dim daionus. I can type Welsh, but I'm learning.
Oh, yeah, perhaps, the Beatles were just another bunch of British Fucktards along with Mad Dogs and Englishmen. :jester:
I agree with Zoomie here. During that time, American support in the form of refueling tanker aircraft was crucial to British operations during the war.
Okay, so the Americans did help in the Falklands, although to say that the British wouldn't have been able to handle it on their own is abit of a big hypothesis. I don't believe that the U.S would be able to handle a war on their own either. Even in Vietnam they had to have help from Australia and New Zealand, and even then they failed miserably. The British Forces are highly skilled and highly professional. You can easily argue that we relied on your (America's) resources, and money, but at the end of the day, isn't it the ability of the troops rather than how much money they have? You can't not admit that the British Troops are highly trained, and very professional. I believe that we're dependent on each other in terms of military allies. Perhaps we have the talent, and you guys have the money?
LA, I don't believe I said this, did someone else? Absolutely agree. And that turned into something calles ANZUS which also failed miserably, mostly due to public pressure in AU and NZ. I worked side by side with both even after ANZUS and they are some of the coolest people I've ever met. British military personnel are cool too, worked with a few at UNCMAG-K (United Nations Command, Military Assistance Group - Korea. We built several schools and remodeled an orphanage in our spare time back in the 80s. And that shite needs to end. I posted about this earlier in this thread. No more miniwars for our allies. How about economic allies, no more military ones. Makes us all look like we're back in the dark ages, little fiefdoms all lining up against a neighbor, then we divide the spoils. Utter shit.
