....and we have less poverty than the US....I don't to want to say that "my french social model" is better than yours that would be ridiculous. I just want to say that the % of unemployment is not a suffisant indicator : if you work but you have not enough money for a decent life, why work ? escuse me but i went in San fransisco and los angeles, and in certain street it was lookinkg like in the third world...These people have a job ? Sad...
The goal of liberalism was'nt to get the rich richer and the poor poorer (hu i'm not sure that this stament was good english...) but it was to create a sort of an acceptable "équilibre"....
I think that if adam smith (who was very touch by the condition of the workers) would see the world today he would reformulate his theory...
then some people are speaking of the 'economical laws'...But WE are making the economical laws and when we arn't satisfied WE change it, markets are sort of game INVENTED by the human ; their rules are ours; and we MUSN'T acceptate them like physical laws based on the observation of the world like the gravity of newton...Because, i say it again, WE are the cause of this laws.

So maybe in the a "liberal logic" the CPE is a good law, i would say it's more a pragmatic law and you know how the french doesn't like pragmatism (maybe we are doing philosophy too soon in our scolarisation : 15 years )...the french don't want t make a revolution but maybe they just want to keep a little part of their idealism (Rousseau, voltaire, les lumières, etc...)

"Demain est moins à découvrir qu'à inventer"
    Gaston Berger

it means : "Tomorrow is less to discover than to invent"

and once again sorry for my english :)

so you think its right for the goverment to tell private companies what to do and how to do it?

and you think its right for labor union to hold companies hostage, when they threaten work stopages if their demands are not met?

want to know why companies are leving the US its because of all the bullshit liberal politics they have to put up with.

but if thats the way france wants that, fine with me its their country.

but if my employees whent on strike od just let them strike and hire people that actually wanted to work.

Exactly that's why we pay taxes, for the government to control businesses that only are concerned with their bottom line.

Unions have never held anyone hostage. Their workers have struck when conditions were less then what ordinary people should put up with, they never held anyone captive.

Want to know why companies are going off shore...because they can and improve their bottom line without anyone saying where's your loyalty....it's time corporations proved where their loyalty really is, and I think you'll find they don't have any.

The little guy wants to work but they also want to be respected!

That is such a shallow remark, you should be ashamed. Have you never heard of the "French Resistance" and how many Allied lives they saved, stop buying into the media of today and read a little history.

Without French help the American revolution would have been won by England.

Double Tuesday, there's no point arguing with you...Your single liners are just what the republican corporate bureaucrats always fight back with. And those of you with short attention spans buy into it. I wish you luck and whatever the future holds for you and your offspring.

You and your type are of one of the reasons I don't come here often. You can't spell, you don't seem to know how to read, and whatever history you ever learned is totally skewed. But as an American I uphold your right to be obnoxious. But I don't have to stick around to see it.

A big joke?!?!? The valiant resistance against the Nazis and their Vichy puppets was a big joke? Incredible! I've heard everything now.

I'd be surprised Double Tuesday if you were over fourteen, and your misspelled, ill worded comments just make you look silly. Grow up! And study a little history.

The intention of the new French labor laws is to try and stimulate hiring to drive down unemployment. The trade-off would be less job security for the initial two years of employment. like a probation period.

Employers will be more likely to hire if they can, in turn fire someone who is not working out.

The College students who are protesting have better job prospects than the Islamic Frenchmen who were protesting a few months ago. This new law will increase jobs for the islamic Frenchmen.
