You have to remember that the United States has something that Spain and Portugal don't have.....................
fuckingHUGE tobacco and alcohol industries that are VERY powerful and exert a lot of political influence. Due to that simple fact, it's unlikely that we will see such decriminalization in the States, Canada or the UK any time soon.

A vast amount of the funding for the anti-medical and anti-legalization of cannabis come from those two groups as well as the pharmaceutical lobby's.

Have you two not been to europe? Lobbying and political influence is different there, but European alcohol culture exceeds that of the states, in many places. When I was in germany not all that long ago they had tobacco vending machines on street corners. And kids drank radler (beer cut with lemonade) at big family dinners in restaurants.
But ya, Spain and Portugal is not Europe...

But they all say that they are the only ways to heaven, that's the problem. That's the whole point of these exclusionary religions; it's their way or the high way. Practically every single holy book will tell you that following any other holy book than this one is a straight road to hell (there are exceptions but this is the general case especially for Abrahamic religions. For example, why are you not muslim? The Quran clearly states that while Jesus was a holy man and a prophet of God, he had a successor, Muhammed, and he was the final prophet with the most up to date message.)

I think you need to research more on other religions first before deciding that this one is right for you, just so you can maybe see their differences and similarities. For example here are TEN different pre-christianity dieties who share remarkable similarities to the story of Jesus Christ:

    http://listverse.com/2009/04/13/10-christ-like-figures-who-pre-date-jesus/

So similar in fact, one would be tempted to think that there is a pattern here . . . one might be tempted to think that religious authorities copy previous successful religions and adopt those facets of old gods that would serve them well today. Or perhaps, there is an innate human need to have those particular properties (born of a virgin, etc) in their god mythos to allow them to function as the god mythos. Also consider your own culture, society, and history (your own as in your own as a person, your own as a family, your own as your society/country) and how that is shaping your decision today to be a christian. I imagine you are a white middle class american, the ripest of ripe grounds for christian indoctrination.

Please don't take this as mean criticism, I also don't think you should half-ass your decision, that's why I'm posting this, because too many people do half-ass their decision and pretend in their head like it was some great struggle to adopt the religion of their father because it's all they've known and now they are at a point in their life when they have a need for something spiritual, so the round peg goes into the round hole and no one is the wiser.

bump for putting my beautiful dog down today, he had a long spoiled life and a mercifully easy end. I will miss you like crazy.

    bummer about your dog, writer.

you never addressed what machinist said though. are you sure it's not YOUR cultural programming etc. that pushes you towards patheism/atheism? also, you can't really be both.

edit: what if all 10 of those christ like figures were actually the same thing over and over, visiting different cultures, and getting named differently?

    ditto
or what if Jesus is the only true deity/Messiah and all the other were false designed to be similar so as to elicit just such reactions from humans? According to the Abrahamic religions there is a war going on between God and Satan and Satan is the great deceiver after all.
Think of it this way, If I handed you a real diamond and a cubic zirconia, it wouldn't be that difficult to discern the real from the fake....
But, If I handed you a bag with 1 real diamond in it and 1000 zirconia's it would make the task of discerning the real from the imposters a lot harder.

    Ponder that for a moment.

@ Mr. Writer, I have looked into the major religions and other "religions" and spiritual "paths".
The thing that started to impress me was just how singular and unique Christianity or more specifically Jesus really is amongst all the others.
Those that lump Jesus in with the others and say they are all the same just haven't done their homework.

Consider this as well; all religions / spiritual paths have one main primary thing in common, humans and our relationship with the universe around us and with God. Therefore of a necessity there are going to be a plethora of commonalities between them, they are all dealing with the same topic. That is why it is much, much more important and educational to focus on and "test" the differences rather than the similarities.
When that is done you find that Jesus really does stand out as very unique and different. That in itself is cause for closer investigation, at least in my opinion.

One of the most obvious but for some reason overlooked is that all religious leaders/founders taught some method or path or ritual or way of thinking as the way to salvation/nirvana/heaven, except Jesus.
Jesus very clearly stated that all authority and salvation was rooted in him, not some formula or ritual or set of rules.
If you don't agree with that then I suggest you take another look at what Jesus actually taught and not just the popular notions often accepted as the real teachings. Also just take the Bible at face value, don't attempt to "interpret" meaning, just accept it for what the words mean. Far too often people will read the Bible and then "interpret" it's meaning to more closely align with whatever pre-conceptions and ideas they already have, often without even realizing that's what they are doing.
That sadly happens most often with those proclaiming themselves to be Christian, or those with some axe to grind against Christianity.

Not trying to espouse personal beliefs here or persuade anyone, but an honest, non-biased study of with topic will bear out what I'm saying.

When it's all shaken out and sorted concerning the person of Jesus we really are only left with three possible options
    1) He was a fake and knowingly deceived his followers
    2) He was mentally ill
    3) He was/is exactly who/what he claimed to be.

Remember, don't judge a religions by it's practitioners, you will always be dissapointed or come away with a skewed perspective.

    (dang I hate religious discussions)

^there could be the fourth possibility that Jesus's words and actions were not recorded accurately. I don't see any particular reason to be assured that the words of the bible are true. This doesn't have anything to do with my personal beliefs. Just playing devils advocate.. lol..

Ok, but lets approach it from the assumption that ALL the different religious leaders words were or were not recorded.

That being said, there are intrinsic features that would suggest that those who recorded the events were honestly reporting what they experienced, but that is a whole other topic, and I hate getting into such discussions.

The problem I have is, who's words?

I don't think that's merely a possibility, but a certainty. After centuries of translations and rewrites on top of it, I'm not sure how much any of the modern writings accurately reflect the original writings. That there is still controversy and many people working on complete translations of the original aramaic writings I think points to lack of any agreement.
    This is yet another translation...
    http://www.v-a.com/bible/aramaic.html
But imma have to jump on Writers bandwagon, seems there are many many more similarities in the major religions than differences and I feel focusing on the common threads that weave human beings together would make the world a better place, rather than making war over the differences.

My love absolutely hates the taste and texture of dried mushrooms. We tried cinnamon bagels with Nutella, but she still almost puked at every bite while I thought it was quite delicious.

Would putting the mushrooms into capsules and swallowing them like a vitamin be an effective route to avoid the taste, but still experience the beauty?

I don't know why it wouldn't be, but I like to make sure I am not overlooking things.

Also, has anyone tried the mixture of aMT and psilocybin? I loved the LSD and aMT combo. The 4-ACO-DMT and aMt combo was really profound and intense. I think psilocybin would yield similar results--although it seems a bit more gentle (more gentle, but also more profound) than 4-ACO-DMT in some ways.

    Thanks all! :)

    This post is monumentally arrogant.

    Get over yourself.

Your assumption that you are more learned or better-read in matters of the Bible than the rest of us here is extremely patronizing and condescending.

All the ideas put forward here represent nothing more than an INTERPRETATION of the Bible and Jesus' message. If you think you have stripped away all assumptions and looked at the Bible with an unbiased eye, you are fooling yourself. It is quite literally impossible to take the Bible (or any text, for that matter) "at face value". Assumptions and emotional biases always intervene. The particular interpretations you posit are extremely specific, fundamentalist, and derived from the Nicene/Trent/Constantinople exegetical tradition (a specific sect within Christianity seizing power in the early centuries CE and making their interpretations normative). The assertion that Jesus did not teach Gnosticism, nor any set of practices or rituals for development, is a cherry-picked conclusion (although it is supported by the centuries of Christian doctrine to which you are an heir), and that Jesus taught salvation as a formulaic exchange of Belief for Heaven is not at all clear from an open-minded reading of the Bible. Don't tell me I haven't done my homework.

It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to look at the Bible without an interpretive lens: Jesus spoke in symbolism and metaphor ALL THE TIME. Even the strictest literalists are forced to begin interpreting when the majority of Jesus' message is couched in parables. You do not have authority to claim an authoritative message from the Bible.

There is a lot of other bad logic here, for instance: the idea that different religious traditions are all similar because they deal in similar subject matter is true; it does not therefore follow that they are in a race and each embody specific levels of "correctness," and that by examining the differences you can find the true one and eliminate the false ones. Doesn't it seem more likely that each of them arose from an authentic insight or revelation, and that the differences are a matter of linguistic variations or programming derived from the culture in which these religions were couched?

Do you realize how ironic it is that you included this sentence? This is exactly what you are guilty of through the whole post.

I wrote a long post and the forum ate it, or i never posted it only previewed, who knows, can't be arsed now.

As you point out, I can't be both, so I think that answers the "well isn't writer just using labels on himself?" I purposefully label myself two conflicting things, cuz non-conflicting labels are too mainstream, dude :p. And my cultural programming DEFINITELY did not take me towards either atheism or pantheism, as I come from a white european catholic background.

Noxious, I don't follow the logic that just because jesus didn't set out a path (which he did, the path of going through him and his teachings) that therefore he is special amongst dieties (which he still isn't in my eyes, just another twist on the old path story [this time, it's ME!]), and that therefore he is an actual diety. There's just universes upon universes of logical steps and proof that needs to occur before I can agree that jesus is god. Or that there is a god. I can pull out some crazy animist religion who's panther god states that the only way to the Eternal Jungle is by eating a certain ratio of oranges to papayas, but that panther god's teachings being strange and unique to my western-leaning mind doesn't invite me to seriously consider his divinity.

Really great videos. I've never heard of this guy but everything he said seemed to be pretty much in line with my understanding of the world. Although he certainly explained it better than I could.

I know gas station name-brand plant food is a big NO-NO to us but my brother has been iv'ing this stuff for six days. After staying up for six days, He's started hallucinating and hearing voices (he also has schizophrenia and PTSD). He started huffing air duster and wrecked his car and he's barely alive. We tricked him into going to his VA doctor in FL to try and Baker-Act him because we don't have anything like that in AL. ATM, He's locked up in a psych ward in pensacola. I know all kinds of stimulant binges can cause similar symptoms but IO can't find ANYTHING on "Red Hot Poker" (plant fertilizer) I would like to go into more detail of his past weekbut its too much to type ATM. So I ask again, WTF is Red Hot Poker??????? whats in it???

I wasn't saying that at all. Maybe I didn't word it well (probably) but I'll try again.
Seems to me when we say "the bible" we are talking about modern texts, there are several versions of them, and they have all been "interpretations" (N.O.s term) of the original writings.
Certainly there is a need to interpret what was originally written, and even to interpret what we have today. But I believe what we have today is the result of rewording, interpretation and manipulation with various motives. And I think it's interesting that there are people out there that want to try to completely translate the ORIGINAL books of the bible into modern english so that people of TODAY can read what was originally written and arrive at their own understanding, not an interpretation of an interpretation, etc etc.

I'm not anywhere near as learned as Raga or NO on the subject but funny you mentioned the 7 days thing. A brief example I had read some time back is, in Genesis the word used originally was "yowm", often translated into "day". That is supposedly the origin of the 7 day creation story. Scholars of language insist that there is no firm definition of yowm, that it means a "period of time" and needs context. It may be a day, it may be sunrise to sunset, or a season, or a millenium. Sort of like "aloha". The word has more than one meaning, it needs context.

There are some who say we are not yet in the 7th day, where God rests, as there are still species being "created".

Just the Genesis story alone is fuel for multiple views to argue the bible endlessly. Let alone the other 98% of the writings.

What we have today, with the different languages of the bible, the time that has passed since they were written, all the obscuration, the millions of variables, is the perfect recipe for endless debate that by definition, can never be resolved.
Which is one reason alot of people don't like discussing it.

    Or something like that....
