mathematics is the study of functions, which is all everything is.

I have a few ideas of how psychedelics and math are connected

    Fractals
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal

they are everywhere in nature; any repeating pattern that seems to repeat itself and look the same no matter how microscopic or zoomed out you get
"Approximate fractals are easily found in nature. These objects display self-similar structure over an extended, but finite, scale range. Examples include clouds, snow flakes, crystals, mountain ranges, lightning, river networks, cauliflower or broccoli, and systems of blood vessels and pulmonary vessels. Coastlines may be loosely considered fractal in nature."
    [IMG]This is broccoli
fractals are the math of nature
    think about it,
Humans created geometry to put form and pattern to things, mostly man made things
there are many benefits to flat shapes, circles, straight lines, perfect angles etc
but in nature we see something different

we see almost random yet similar patterns everywhere but they key to this self similarity is called reiteration

instead of a graph of a line like y= 3x -4 describing the shape of something, in fractals, which is all that is natural, the equasion could be anything, like y=x^2 + 1 but the key is that the output is fed back in to the equasion
    x________y

    1^2 + 1 = 2
    2^2 + 1 = 5
    5^2 + 1 = 26
    26^2 +1 = 676
    676^2 + 1 = 456977
    etc
if you plot those x and y coordinates you get something that looks like this

i know it sounds stupid but once on LSA i developed strange connection between blinking my eye and number 5:) Not that i saw 5 when i blinked but i tought that blinking MEANS 5:) and for couple minutes i didnt even find it strange and then i realised "What the f***! What?! Why is blinking 5!?"

My immigrant parents drilled math into me (to the point of tears) when I was kid.

But when I was in high school, and before I had my first experiences with psychadelics, I did come to realize the power of mathematics... rather, the power, capabilities and depths of the mind.

I noticed it could become a world of trip in itself. I could be working on one tough problem for a few hours and my mind would venture so far deep into higher levels of awareness, complexity, connectedness that I often compared it to the feeling I get from listening to or creating music - that of tuning into a higher consciousness. Eventually, when I'd get so lost in this world of numbers that nothing else even seemed to exist, I'd figure out the answer.....and what a high that would be......what a release.

The language we speak may be given mathematical treatment with very satisfying results.

Mathematics is a beauty. Psychedelics too. Hand in hand, you get a squared result :D.

I think math is the closest to absolute truth we'll ever get.

Ok I have been studying engineering for a long time and I never really appreciated it until I started taking LSD, especially the mathematics and physics side.
Whenever i'm tripping i usually end up thinking about life, existence, the beauty of physics etc..

the one that really gets me however is the genius of E=mc^2,
c being the speed of light, I constantly wonder what light has to do with matter and energy. I actually find this piece of information frightening sometimes while tripping...

Mathematics and formulas are the best way to describe what cannot be put into concise words. It was because of LSD I realized this.

And yes, mathematics can be done while tripping, it's just not really fun

right? like why would relative motion somehow affect mass and time and space? its really crazy if you can understand the physics behind it

essentially they are all facets of one thing O_O supreme unity

This is why Bach is the greatest transistor of the human experience through sound in the history of the world.

I always loved doing my Trig homework while dosed back when I was @ DeVry.
    Geometry was also pretty cool,

Formulas seemed to come alive and become more tangible while tripping, big shocker there eh'? :D

I should probably grow some MG's before i start teaching myself Calculus. ;)

I always liked this quote, which my geometry, trig, and precalc teacher had on his wall:

"Music is the pleasure the human soul experiences from counting without being aware that it is counting." - Gottfried Leibniz

(when I was looking up the exact quote, I found this page, which is interesting:
    http://members.cox.net/mathmistakes/quotes.htm )

Pythagoras was a hippy if there ever was one.
