I don't enjoy the Clash at all. This is the punk I always get to here from my brother and it's one of the few kinds of punk I can appreciate: Cocksparrer, an early punk band from England. http://www.myspace.com/cocksparrerpunk
I also tolerate the Business when it comes to punk, and of course Dropkick murphies.

Tsk, so what. You don't have to take it seriously to appreciate the music.

i said they are more "hippie-like"........i dont know if you've ever been to a show, but there's this huge sense of camraderie and looking out for one another. Ever been in a mosh pit? It looks violent (well, it is) but as soon as someones down, they pick em back up. There's something about beating the shit out of your friend thst brings you closer together.

And lets not forget the lyrics

But hey, its not for everyone

beating up my friends doesnt seem hippie-like, that was my point.

and i wasnt saying i dont like punk. i like nofx and the clash and some others. i was just commenting that its not "hippie-like" music.

and i've been to warped tour, which i wouldnt call a "punk show", but since you say MXPX is punk, i'd say warped definately counts on your definition.

Ahh I like NOFX and Pennywise. But you can't take them too seriously...

Good new punk? Leftover Crack. F-Minus. International Noise Conspiracy. Hot Water Music. Satanic Surfers. Belvedere. etc.

let me set one thing straight....mxpx is not in one of my regular rotations to listen to...an example, you see........

wildflowereyes....hell no punk isnt hippie music.....it is the ATTITUDE of punk....Chris said it was more anti-establishment....that is precisely what I meant when I said it was more "hippie-like". And there is a bigger sense of brotherhood/sisterhood than I have ever seen is in the "jamband" scene.

And the fact that you dont get the whole moshing/slamdancing thing...well, i cant explain it to you, and, sadly, you probably wont understand it.

(P.S. Warped tour is the last place I would go to see a punk show.)

Moshing is probebly one of the most beautiful things about punk, unless it gets out of hand...

They really get into the music and pass on the energy to each other through direct body contact.

At the same time it's animalistic and stupid.

    Oh well.

^^ that's the thing that got me into punk.....the ENERGY

I never really paid it any mind until I went to a show, and the energy was so entoxicating....damn, the energy at a show is the best..everyone's just vibing at the same frequency...so cool.......

Nope, we ain't... Yet a human is capable of extracting the positive out of his animalistic nature, while stupid primitivism is truly not the positive.
