Farmers market is too expensive. Organic= New meaning of The Dictionary of John. Organic- Expensive, overpriced, not cheap
that sucks for y'all. are ALL of you guys all in a metro area? even if it's not organic, you can get great veggies at a farmer's market. they're not ALL organic. just wash 'em. they're cheaper. we're doing really well with our organics out here because they're so popular. in a lot of cases they're even cheaper than the mass produce. though you have to eat them very quickly. after a lifetime of eating the industrial strength veggies, figuring out how to buy and eat them that day got kinda complicated.
how funny, found this in the news: Chinese Restaurant Food Draws Criticism http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070321/D8O0IBA02.html just don't make the mistake of equating the gut-bomb take-away chinese food with normal chinese food. i used to live across the road from a chinese-health-food restaurant. at first i thought it was funny that they would make the distinction, but then i learned more about food.
I live rural, and we do buy from the local farmshop on the road to town, even get hold or organic boxes from a monthly meet at the local. All very civilised really, more so than the towns I would confess.
well I dont agree with any of you that say its just a matter of personal choice. maybe if you live in the countryside or have your own allotment or can easily buy farm produce direct from the farmers then yeah great, but what about the majority of people who live 15 or 20 miles from the nearest farm shop. In practical terms 95% of the population either cannot afford the price of decent food because of artificially high prices or they cannot get to a place where quality food is sold. The people who run the supermarkets are concerned only with presentation and make you pay extra for quality - whereas infact they should be concerned a lot more with quality and make people pay extra for presentation. I recently went to Ludlow market and was so surprised at the quality of food compared to the crap they fob off on people in the supermarkets. For the majority of people we are forced to choose from a single variety of produce and what is on offer is not good quality - Orchard farmers these days do not grow more than a couple of traditional varieties of apple - there used to be hundreds of English apples - now you will be hard pushed to find any shop selling traditional English apples - they are mainly French Golden Delicious sold in supermarkets. There are not many countries where they admire either the quality or the price of British food - infact the rest of Europe knows our food chain is a scam. In France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and Austria, etc they just wouldnt put up with this shit that is forced on us in Britain - I agree with the person who said organic = expensive Its about time people actually demanded that the price of organic food were monitored and subject to legal restraint - much like bread was forced to be kept lower than 40p for over a decade during the late 1960's and 70's by law - If theyre gonna keep the quality of food low they should also be forced to lower their prices - sainsburys in London were charging £60 for Turkey at christmas there wasnt one of em for less than £48 and they werent even organic - if that aint a scam - what is - cuz the way these people operate is nothing short of criminal - it is the supermarkets who dictate price and quality not the farmer, and not the customer Ever seen what is in supermarket saussages?
Why should good food be cheap ? Just because people are used to buying cheap rubbish does not mean you can make decent food cheap. If ones finances are a struggle then ditch the stuff you don't need and just buy quality ingredients instead. I want "wah" isn't a good enough argument.
No but when they pack cheap food in packaging that actually costs more than the food they sell and then call it "taste the difference" and claim its some superior product - you gotta start asking just how much of a rip off is this - If I buy something I dont want it sold in packaging thats costing me twice the price of the food it contains and then a load more for the privaledge of having the council come and empty my bins - I want a lot less packaging and someone to actually tell the truth and sell the damned goods if they are rubbish - as rubbish and not try to fob it off on me like its some kind of lovingly hand prepared quality product. The food industry from the farmer upwards is just full of crap in this country - from the amount it costs to provide organic food - to the way in which food is packaged and marketed in supermarkets - theyre all ripping us completely off. Have you ever stepped outside this country and been somwhere that actually regards food supply as a serious venture and one which is integral to its way of life - rather than this country that just sees it as another way to profit from selling crud to the masses?
