Um...Indigo, I think what Honeyfugle is trying to say, is that you got her and MollytheHippy mixed up.:p Honeyfugle hasn't been involved in this thread.:D

Also, I use the term 'faggot' alot. I shouldn't, but I do. I have plenty of gay friends, and they don't batter an eyelid about me using the word. We have a good understanding of each other. Even though I use the word, I'm in no means homophobic.

Ok ... I feel like an idiot. Sorry Honeyfugle. I totally got messed up.

Man, my brain is fried and it's not for any GOOD reasons. I just can't seem to sleep recently. I'm firing on about 2 hours of sleep today, and well ... let's just say it ain't going to great.

yes. Fag is also a ciggerette.

Another good thing about England is our fish and chip shops. no other country in the world have fish and chip shops except for the touristy ones. Like English Fish shop in the heart of the Serengeti plains or Chippy shop of England in paris.

maybe that is how homosexuals got to be known as fags cuz they like to get their butts smoked as a cigarette is also known as a butt and so they just started calling themselves fags... interesting how word usage evolves

my point is to take responsibility in however you feel inspired to heal and renew the world but i don't think taking the blame or blaming is such a good think with the inherent guilt inplied in the terms... guilt, imo, is a misguided term as in truth, no one is guilty, we are all inocent as that is our true nature

so many problems abound in the world from global warming to poverty and with each of us having the point of view that this is my responsibility, then hopefully, there will be solution... one's action though may not be a direct response to the problem at hand as in ... let's say, living a life of love and joy in our interactions with others in such simple things as greeting a stranger next to us in line to get a cup of coffee with a smile of joy may be one of the biggest things we can do to heal and renew our world as truly, it is in the losing of our sense of grace that has created our pain

so i hope my idea of taking responsibility isn't as heavy sounded as it could be interpreted... to the point of over there in england as well as here on the other side of the pond in the usa, it seems we elect politicians who say they are gonna do one thing and then do another... and so i feel we have the responsibility that if the politicians and the political process doesn't perform the way we the people choose it to perform, then we have a responsibility to see what can be done so that it does... and so from this point of view, we are responsible for the politicians who misrepresent us... we elected them and we choose the process as we do live in a democratic system of government

    yea hippies!

true, most germans weren't aware of the holocaust but in seeking a solution to the economic hardships they faced during the 20's and 30's, they did take to sympathy with nazi propaganda which did have anti-semitic leanings... and so the problem is not one in the past but one of "now", we can be responsible and make intelligent choices in how we choose leaders and a system to represent us

that is commendable that so many decided it was the responsible thing to do and make a statement that they were against this war... and may these actions of those like yourself who seek to inpire and teach us that the victories of war is illusion bless our world where those who come to hold political office honor their sacred obligation to seek evolution and peace

my point is folks here on this thread are saying what the government does isn't their responsibility and so if one is insisting this, then it must be that they have no choice in electing their government

in short, i am saying the world is our responsability... a responsibility of the purest love and innocence... a burden of Light

i look forward to that day when all the peoples of the world can sing as one, a song of beauty of love as we extend our reach out into the cosmos and such dark memories of our wars and oppressions innoculate us eternally from such tendencies

Unfortunately it is a limited system of two-party representative democracy. So it often comes down to choosing the lesser of two evils. The British Conservatives as well as the American Democrats were overwhelmingly supportive of both the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Given that, electing the other would have made no difference at all. Any other party would have had no chance. This is a kind of demi-democracy, where only a narrow spectrum of decision making can be influenced by the public. In this sense, we are not responsible for the actions of government. Instead we have a choice. We can choose to agree with them, or we can choose to take issue with certain policies. And if we choose to take issue, then the responsibility might be to take action. But whether or not they'll listen is a different matter entirely....

peace phoenix, so maybe you folks can get together and fix the broken government that doesn't accurately reflect the mandate of the people? or is that the way is has to be till the end of time where you are at the mercy of little green elves who have chosen your system of government?

Can you suggest a way, short of armed insurrection and civil war? This is the way things are in all the liberal democracies. A very limited range of options is on the table and you have the choice between green, mauve and indigo when what may be required is yellow polka dots or purple pinstripe. These are not even debated, so you end up with an electorate presented with a biased and false choice.

excellent question lithium and one i don't have a direct answer for...

but as john lennon has sung "imagine all the people..." and the poets and visionaries and all the people have dreamed for ages, each day we have to find the courage and means to take one step closer

our world is our responsibility... it is not the sole responsibility of noble elites who have ruled irresponsibility for so long

however you feel inspired to truly change the world that reflects your soul consciousness of love, let it flow

saying hi and hello and feelings graces of warmth next to the folks you ride the trolley with may be the most powerful statement in the moment you can make

It all sounds a bit wishy washy to me. Personally, I am in favour of radical social change through whatever means are at our disposal. Kind words and well meaning sentiments are not enough. Lennon's 'imagine' sets out an idea for an entirely different utopian society, almost a communist one you could say. But imagining what must be done is a long way from actually doing something. As Marx said, in critiquing Fuerbach "The philosophers have merely interpreted the world. The point is to change it"....

Molly. You're incredibly naive. If you think that everyone in the world is, someday, going to join hands and crush the molds of racism and prejudie; you're DEEPLY ignorant. Fighting and racism has been part of human history for a long time, and isn't going to go away. It's a dark and depressing truth, and a terrible stain on our history. For God's sake, you quote Lennon as a political influence when all he did was use futile attempts to change the world. Oh, and beated his wife. Nobody is perfect, and nobody is going to be in your 'happy etopia'.

Love doesn't change politics. People change politics, and sometimes they change it for the worse.

I'm not cynical, I'm realistic. I didn't say that change is not possible. I said that change isn't possible through her ideas. No political revolution came from love and happiness. Revolution comes from the peoples thought behind the fist, not the fist behind the thought.
