yes i know. i'm asking dom, b/c i thought it was a funny stament. most rastas don't have locks, don't run around in red/gold/green, etc.
i was replying to dom's statement vig. of course you know about what raztas look like cuz you totally are one.
Soooo, realizing that I agree with just about every statement you made here Pat, I searched for more information on Black Metal so I could edumuhcate myself. To make a long story short, it seems that I do agree with many of the stances that black metal fans have, however... I found it hypocritical that you claimed that the innocent killing of nonchristians as being wrong, yet "some musicians have been associated with church burnings and murder" in the black metal culture. I did get that off wikipedia so I come here asking for your opinion on it and to confirm if it's true. Doesn't it upset you if it is true? Not bashing... just looking to learn.
Well there were many church burnings. Which were done as a statement and noone was killed druing them. The murders mentioned (there were only 2): One was commited by Varg Vikernes (also a lead church burner) to a fellow black metal musician The other was by Emperor drummer Bard Faust but had no relation to black metal, he claims to have done it out of self defence
Well, someone should tidy up the wikipedia entry to say that.... because just saying murders makes it sound like the black metal culture was responsible for wiping out towns. So... does everyone agree with teh church burning then? Because other than that... it really does seem like I have a lot in common with black metal fans, well, except for the music.
I think there are good Christians in the world. They are the ones who actually emulate Christ instead of worshiping him. I'm an Anthro major so I've had to study a lot of religious crap, particularly Muslim and Judao-Christian feuding and fanaticism in Israel. The main problem I've found with Christians is that instead of actually living their life the way Christ did like the bible says, they do whatever the fuck they like and then pray to Christ for forgiveness. Or just travel through life like a drone, worshiping blindly while never really understanding what it is they care so deeply about. So technically I don't think they have the right to call themselves Christians at all. A lot of them are too thick to even understand the message of Christ, though I'll admit it has become increasingly muddled over the centuries. And unfortunately a lot of people who are the most extremist have little to no understanding of other religions at all, which is an unfortunate western trend. And Jesus himself was even believed by some to have traveled to the east to study religion, at least according to some legend. Of course, it's not certain that he existed at all. Anyway, I wouldn't wear an upside-down cross because I am not against Christ or the concept of Jesus, but I agree with Pat and the black metal gang I suppose, 98% of Christians are fucking hypocrites. Then again, we're all hypocrites. I just don't ever pretend I'm not
Yeah, by those people aren't christians. They proclaim to be but going to church or even being "saved" doesn't make you christians. Real christians are awesome people but few and far between. A lot of christian mentality is still fueled by the same catholic ideologies formed in the dark ages, sad really. But the modern true christian movement is great. I am not christian myself but can truly appreciate anyone truly devoted to their god. People that don't preach with word but preach by example. My really good friend is about as true of a christian you can get and he enlightened me to lots of truths and misconceptions about christianity. It's sad really...such a good idea gone horribly wrong by society. As far as I am concerned all of those types of people aren't christians.
i agree like i myself am christin and i try my best to be just a all around good person and try to walk in jesus's footsteps (though i need to work on somethings) but there are some people who are like 'im christian' then they go around being nasty people.. ppl think u can just repent but u actaully have to mean it
Yeah, i'm also a Christian. It took me ages to find out who I actually believed though, instead of who the church told me i should be believing in. I also think that religion is also used to cover up the love of money and power...as a result a lot of people have gotten hurt/killed (crusades, every other crime committed by the 'church'). And daisymelan, i don't agree with burning churches, because it really does nothing except destroy another piece of property and scare people... however, the Church are the people who believe in Jesus and who follow what He taught, not the building and i think people get caught up too much in the 'things' associated with Christianity instead of being Christ-like. IMHO
Im a christian... problem with christianity or any other religiion I guess... are extremists and the fact that there are so many of them... or the hipocrites I stopped going to church when people started criticizing me about piercings and my clothes and pretty much everything about me... most things werent wrong and at least they could have actually told me what they thought instead of acting like schoolgirls... I did go to church after I got my dreads to see the reaction it was fun most people looked at me like I was evil the other acted like I was a blight upon humanity... some accepted at least... at least the nigerians liked em... they the coolest people in church I know though theres so many of them I think they are gonna to do a service of their own... will miss them they are cool people... but I digress
yeah some people that seem to dominate the anti-religion argument in this thread need to remember that and stop pretending.
dread_crazy - The church burnings bother me for the simple fact that it seems unnecessary. If they wanted to prove a point, I'm sure the first church they burned proved it. KWIM? I guess I just do not agree with most uses of violence. I still haven't found my "calling" and would not consider myself christian. I was not christened or baptized. I attended a church for a few years as a child but that is where my affinity with Christianity ends. I am certainly agnostic. I have respect for anyone that has a religious belief and lives it as best they can... no one is perfect.
