Am I the only one who thinks you're a prick? You rear-ended a guy and are now trying to weasel out of all responsibility.

You probably can get away with it, but it sure says a lot about you.

I dont care what you think about me. If there was actually an issue he should have called me the day after and i would have gladly shown up, chequebook in hand. Waiting a week tells me that there wasn't a problem but he probably talked to some friends who said that he should try and suck some money from me..he's an old rich guy im a young guy barely scraping by. His car wasn't in good condition anyways..probably his winter car.

And regarding me tailgating...like i said i'm quite positive he had been drinking. He was not maintaining a constant rate of speed for most of the duration i was bwhind him. He eventually sped up to 90 and i followed suit..he maintained that speed for sometime until i glanced down for literally a second. Say what you will about my driving skills but i'm confident im a better driver than most of you on this site and i know im a better deiver than most of the people in this area. A country backroad at 430 am with pretty good conditions (just wet, no snow) is not where i was expecting someone to slam on their brakes when they are already speeding themselves.

People have seasonal cars??? Holy fuck. lol. Anyway, I don't think you're doing anything wrong, you're being smart. Just remember, in future cases, you might want to get a police report, ESPECIALLY if it looks like it might not have been your fault.

Yeah some people do. The salt on the roads rusts the shit out of cars here. A car that lasts 10 years here could last 20 in cali or somewhere without regular winter snowfall.

Im not denying that it was my fault, but it was 100% unnecessary of him to do what he did and judging by the way he reacted when we talked i could tell he knew he had made a mistake too.

Still more rationalizations. Do you know the guy wasn't working out of town for a couple days? That he didn't have to wait to get in at his garage for an inspection.

There are a million reasons why he could not have called for a week besides trying to fuck you.

And if you rear-end somebody, you are pretty much always 100% at fault.

Lol he lives down the street from where it happened. He didnt take it to a garage...he told me the damage was something he noticed. Not my problem anymore...like i said i'm not denying my responsibility but if he wanted compensation i dont care what his excuse was. All he had to do was call and say "hey i want you to come look at this but ill be out of town". Not wait a week...like i've said probably 5 times now that just makes it look like it wasn't an issue at first but someone he talked to said he should try and sucker some money from me for a car that probably isn't worth more than 2gs.

Let me fix that for you... you obviously meant to say:

You know he's an old rich guy, because his car was in bad condition during the winter.... I see.

If you hit someone because you weren't expecting something, it shows you're a shitty driver. End of story. Especially if you where speeding at the time, wether or not they where. There's never any excuse to rear end someone, if it's wet you should have compensated.

Not everyone has all day every day to contact you because you suck at driving. he did make the mistake of not calling the cops and being a nice guy... you're clearly at fault, he cut you a break, and he obviously made a mistake in doing so.

oh so that's why you rear-ended someone. cuz you are such a great driver. there are many reasons to slam on your brakes regardless of the time, etc.

2-2.5 car lengths following distance at 90 km/h (56 mph) is WAY the fuck too close... and you've demonstrated why. As far as doing the right thing... it seems to me that you've already decided that you're not going to do the right thing and you want someone to reassure you that evading the dude whose car you rear-ended will carry no repercussions. I gotta say, you mustn't think very highly of the people here to expect them not to question the ethical premise your question seems to be based on. One of my pet peeves is tailgaters and had you rear ended my car I would not have let you off the hook.

Yawn..don't need a bunch of stoners who have never seen me drive criticize my driving based on something i have written. Tha's just funny. I'd go see him but at this point he only wants me to come so he can get my plate numbers to have more evidence against me. At the time of the accident i had myy insurance papers in my hand ready to give him the information. Believe me i had no intentions of screwing him over, i was quite grateful that he didnt want the police involved but i gurantee it's because he was drunk. And i know he's got money and more cars than that because i've seen his house which is on a large country lot, made of stone.

Please lock this thread i'm sick of all the fucking critics and self righteous opinions. I've made my choice and he lost his chance. If he wanted compensation he should have called within a day or two like i thought he would have when he said "if you don't hear from me you have nothing to worry about". I didn't hear from him for nearly a week so i have nothing to worry about...there are no excusesm there is nothing that important that would stop you from making a phone call regarding something like this. All you people who say I'm a prick, asshole bad person, whatever...put yourself in my position because i know none of you would give up money in a situation like this.

Then walk up to his door (leave your car a block away) and tell him that you aren't going to compensate his damage because he didn't call you soon enough.

Putting his phone to voicemail again and again is gutless.

now i wasnt going to be nasty before, cuz i was under the impression that you realized that you were at fault.. but you dont seem to think you are. for shame.

stinkfoot is absolutely right in that 2-2.5 car lengths is nowhere near the right distance for that speed, in perfect driving conditions, and even farther from the right distance in wet conditions, if you can close that distance in "literally a second" you are way too close. any (and i contend every) "good driver" knows that. you were tailgating, simple as that guy. im not telling you to go and pay for his shit, he was at fault for not calling the cops, buy YOU were at fault for the accident. its called common sense.

so yea this thread should be locked, princess here doesnt want to be criticized boo hoo

being a good driver means not looking away from the road when you do not have an assured safe distance on cold wet pavement at night.

Looking at your GPS means you didnt know where the hell you were going anyway.

Now I'm gonna tell you again.

    You are a bad driver.

There's really no shame in admitting you're a bad driver... I'm a pretty bad driver, so I generally don't drive. Maybe you should invest in a bus pass.

There's really not. I have a tendency to get pissed off and drive like a complete asshole sometimes. Or there are times when I'm worried about eating and driving, or talking on the phone and smoking and driving at the same time while I drive with my knees. Sometimes I'll even be headbanging while I drive. I don't think that's really a good idea either

Yeah, he was probably trying to lose that shithead who wouldn't back off of his car. I know I don't put up with that shit, if it was me you where tailing, you'd be going as slow as my car would go in first, cause that shit pisses me the FUCK off. I don't want some shitheads lights in my mirror, and how close their car is to damaging my car on my mind, the whole time I'm driving. Especially on wet roads in the early morning. And you showed exactly why I feel this way.

Because he has a house in the country doesn't mean shit about him, what he can afford, or anything else. And it doesn't excuse you from being an unsafe driver and trying to blame him. If, at any point in the trip, he was going 90, I don't see his car as being undamaged. You're trying to rationalize shit.

That's a great way to put it. I must say I fall into this category too.
