Rob, Acid again? I did "do" another time in 1972? We were at the first Rainbow Gathering of Tribes in Grandby Colorado and trying to hike up a mountain? It didn't work at all and we found ourselves sitting by a campfire with the likes of people who called themselves "Purple" and "Hitler" with big "psychedelic headaches" all around. Nothing could really compare to those times out in the countryside a coupla years before... Tundrahopper
hey Motown, fabulous nebula. As for the rest, I have never had a "bad" acid trip in fact they were all fun but i had a strange sense of "it" being out there and not internal. i wish i could find a better way to say it then that. Perhaps because it was synthetic... Mushrooms were very "internal" as was salvia in high doses and natural DMT's. the second trip with mushrooms was very out of body and I have never had a bad run there either. I believe it is all part of personal chemistry as much as anything else. I can dig that Thudly did not like shrooms just as I never really "learned" from acid. All of that speaks to each individual's personal preferences in life in total. We are all different and each seperately have to find the path with heart (castanada). All of these paths lead to the same place and that is the cold oblivion of eternity so why follow a path that has no meaning for you as an individual...or better yet, why NOt follow that path that gives you happieness for as long as you are allowed to travel? Too often people get their underwear in a bunch about what some one else is doing because they personally do like like it...that sucks. let each soul be their own light and do so in peace and love.
When someone first gave me a hit of acid-I had no idea what it was-noone did-It was not heard of or in the papers yet or talked about-it had just been a very small group in San Francisco area that had tried it-The Merry Pranksters with Ken Keasey was the first group to do it and then they had the Trips Festival in San Francisco and the Dead played and everyone was ripped-Great party-I think the year was 66-after that and a year later the whole world found out about this magical-colorful stuff and the Beatles put out the best album of their life-St. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band-the rest is history-glad to hear ya made it through the looking glass-welcome aboard-the mystery ship sets sail at dawn!
Rob, Did you ever hit the White Light? I did in August of 1970 and after that there was really no point in "doing" again. Tundrahopper
Is that what the big picture is-- a nebula? I thought it was a MRI of my brain after being drunk about 5000 times and doing some dangerous drugs. Speaking of brain damage, my sister (who's a doctor) once commented, "You should know that everytime you get drunk you kill half a million brain cells." "If that were true, dear sister," I replied, "I'd be as stupid as you." She was not amused.
Tundra-White Lightening?--To be honest I ate alot of different colors with different name from 65 to 68 or so-The package-(color/form cap or liquid or pilletc. didn't mean anything-Before I would drop anything' I wanted to know how others liked it and if it was from Owsley -if those two things were right then -here I go-That was about all ya needed in S.F in those days-the best reference was from others and we trusted each others opionin on this -In 1970 me and a buddie were in Europe running plain blotter acid from Amsterdam to Rome-It looked like a plain sheet of paper-until ya held it to a bright light-then you could make out the hundreds of drops-The Romans loved it!=And I loved it in Rome but thats a whole nother story--
Rob, I never made California untill about twenty five years after it was all said and done-too bad! No-I mean hitting the white light as part of a trip. I guess some people have called it "meeting God." The stuff that got me there went by the unlikely name of "Chicago Smog". Clean clean clean. Since then I have had this unshakeable belief in the hereafter! Never became a bible thumper like a lot of them did however. Tundrahopper
If you pay close attention, acid will make it clear when you have had enough. For every person there is a healthy, well-balanced "place" of clarity from which everything is a connection to the infinite. LSD (and/or Meditation, Yoga, Study, Grace, Creativity, etc.) has helped many people open once-closed doors in order to reach that place. Once you get to that point, however, more acid (which certainly can be a lot of fun) may actually hinder your growth as a complete human being, which is a kind of crippling, and that really isn't any fun at all. Until then . . . Peace and Love
Real good Varuna-Thats just what happens-It is not a recreational drug so much as a eye opener-a teaching tool-and yes-only so many trips are needed-If you spent days at a time trippin; then that should do it-but like everything else I had to do it to the max-was a great deal of fun for a long time--
Rob, My own "acid age" lasted a whole 15 months. By the time Katie and I got to Europe it was all long ago and far away. We did not even smoke pot that whole time we were in Europe as we were moving fast and not getting to know people in any given place, and we were travelling mostly in Southern Europe and things were pretty conservative there at that time. Why Southern Europe? I am of Eastern and North European ancestry so there were no family cultural connections to make. Well it goes back to some strange acid dreams I had had a few years before about the classic lands. I have got an old photo of me in Italy Katie calls "TH in heaven". True. Belle Italia! Tundrahopper
Yes Tundra-I also had a fine time in Italy-In 1970 Americans were still liked over there-It was a good place to travel-all of Europe was nice; but Amsterdam and Rome were my favorites-Rome reminded me of home alot-San Francisco-lots of great art work and artists everywhere-I played in a club at nights and partied alot--good memories-
Rob; Greece was pretty cool also Colonels and all. We were in Matala Kriti for about six weeks and what a scene! Italia was something special though and I was especially zapped by Firenze. I wanted to get to Israel (UNpc even then!) but the money ran out. The dollar certainly was king back then! I heard about some British Hippies who went to Lebanon and chickened out smuggling a kilo of hash? They rented a house on a mountain and smoked until it was all gone. Beruit had a reputation of being the Jewel Of The Mediterranean back then. That all blew to hell in '74. TH
I only dropped acid a few times back in the day. I was simply too moody back then and didn't handle it well, so I gave it up and stuck with pot and wine. I'm a more stable person now and I'm sure I could deal with it better, but the desire is gone. Now I rarely even do pot, and I usually limit myself to one or two drinks. My attitude toward altering my consciousness has become: if it works, don't fix it.
Hey, did any of you guys see the documentary on tv called Hoffmans Potion? Great stuff about the history of LSD before it became illegal. Seems most of the guys who were studying it at the time are sort of miffed at Tim Leary for bringing it so out in the open. They feel it's his fault that it became such a "threat" to the US govt. that they felt obligated to make it illegal in order to control America's youth... These guys had the right idea, not clouded by a bunch of wierd notions. And they all had this twinkle in their eyes remembering back to when the "studies" were going on. Too bad we couldn't go back to there on the timeline and start over. I think alot of folks (most of them) these days have completely missed the point. My teenage son, who has had some trip experience, watched part of that documentary and didn't even get it....
Earthmother-thats funny-first our government uses guys in the military to test LSD-one of them died-he dove out a window- so thats also probably one of the reasons it was outlawed-that and Art Linkletters kid diving out another window-So they figured it was too unpredictable-they were also trying to cure insanity with it at the mental hospitals-wow-how would you like to get a peak at the inside of one of those patients brains after taking a large dose of government made acid?_strange daze indeed-The first stuff to hit the streets was real strong and very colorful-lots of hallucinations all night-I only wish I could have gone out to the country everytime I tripped-O well-it was fun' but that was zen-this is now-
Yea Tundra-We went to Crete and stayed a week or so-stayed drunk on uzo and hash-Joni Mitchell was there when we were-Greeks are great people-the old men ride donkeys and have a great attitude-must be how they made it so many years-there never in a hurry-I would like to go back and see all those ruins again-this time with a clear head!=
