If you've read The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test you'd know that one of the government's LSD test subjects was Ken Kesey, who later spread the use of LSD with his acid tests. So it was the government that opened that door for him (doors of perception?), he merely kept those doors open to let others in.

    ROb,
You weren't in Matala in July August '73 were you? I think it was Joni was there one night at the full moon festival dancing like the wildest Bachante you ever heard of. I got to like the Kritan red wines and they had some American style bierra that was pretty darn good. The German table and the French table had a drinking contest one night and you will never guess who won? This German fellow was trying to pour more Ouzo (YUCK!) in my glass and I was blathering "Get away you *&^% rowdy GERMAN!" It was all good natured fun. My English friend Peter was saying that there were spooks all over the backpacking scene that summer. I got to wonder if it had anything to do with that covert Israeli?Palestinian war that was going on. Then the PLO shot up the Athens airport the week after we left. It's a good thing the money ran out because that was the day we were scheduled to leave. The good ole USA was something of a culture shock to return to after all that.
    Efcharistou Hellas!
