One word...Melvins. I voted for Nirvana only for the impact they had on 90's music, but remember, Kurt roadied for Melvins back in the day. Pure, godhed stoner thump till the cows (another great 90's band) come home.

'stoner witch' is fucking awesome, but i refrained from listing them cause i would venture to say that many folks on these forums have never heard the melvins...

"gluey porch treatments" and "bullhead" should be on your BUY list. "stoner witch" is also a fine piece of wax. Melvins are still spreading their funk to all who have the balls to listen. 20 years of pure love!

What about The Smashing Pumpkins. They are one of my most favorite bands, definately the best band since the 1970's.

I voted Nirvana, because they're absolutely necessary to my enjoyment of music. I like their music that much. I'm always hearing about all these bands they ripped off...but I don't really like any of those bands, yet I love Nirvana.

Mark Lanegan is my fav from that list but the 90's would have been the same without him....Pumpkins,Radiohead,Kyuss,Oasis,Rage Against The Machine,Faith No More and *twitches* Metallica are a few bands that made the 90's imo

Oasis are very good. also i like Blur. Oasis is the 90's version of the Beatles and Blur is the 90's version of the Kinks. remember that 1995 hit by Blur? "House In The Country". I remember always hearing it on the radio exactly a decade ago during the fall of 1995 when I was in high school.

I think Nirvana could have gone undone totally. Not that I don't like them, I could just live without them. But Alice In chains was some true talent at work. Layne Staley had a voice that was hard to compare to anything else. What they had was 2000 times what Nirvana had

i think in alot of ways aic is a forgotten and underrated band
my favourite band though so theyre not totally forgotten

also it may just be my opinion but i think nin should be on the list not a huge fan but trent seems significant enough to be on the list

You're right. NIN should have been on that list too. As well as TooL. Their first album was around 92.

Why isn't The Smashing Pumpkins mentioned? They are better than any band mentioned here.

Oh lucky Cobain and their Nirvana... in fact Nirvana is really born in april 94 ...if you think a little bit with your brain and not your balls... uhm...

In fact Nirvana are really lucky that the last album of Jane's Addiction if from 1990 ... If they decided to continue ...the answer in 92 of Nevermind will be a big psychedelic ecstatic alternative wild grunge kick in the dry Ass of Nirvana... oufff it never happens for those heroin addicts... and the cult of Nirvana was ready to grow without glorious warriors to face them...

The most essential Nirvana song was "Territorial Pissings".
