amen, we have to stay on them. We need jobs, a change in direction, and a change in Congress. Those that have made a career out of politics and have been in Washington more then 10 years are corrupted. Time for new. No more electing lobbyists.
how about I be thankful for what I have and complain about things I have an issue with in this country.
This country wouldn't exist as you know it and love it if it weren't for "whiners and complainers". Could you imagine how fucked up and unlivable this country would be if the the "whiners and complainers" didn't stand up to "no taxation without representation, Slavery, child labor, McCarthyism - for women's suffrage, Civil Rights, Environmental Conservation?" Cops and Jails are necessary - because assholes will always do everything in their power to fuck everything up. That being said, cops need to be reminded, frequently reminded, that their duty is to serve and protect the people who employ them, the tax payer, not just the corporate/political agendas of the extremely wealthy. It's not a job for police to pepper spray and illegally detain non-violent protesters. It's certainly not the job of law enforcement to suppress a revolution.
X2 But will it take another Kent state before the rest of the country get's it? Or would the Tea Party applaud such a thing these days? I don't know, the verdict is still out......
The reason we get the free stuff is to keep us blind deaf & mute. This way we won't whine & complain. Or so the theory goes. & actually whining & complaining is better than revolt. Sadly, either that, or voluntary poverty,((which I've chosen), but many aren't willing to do), & there may be more ways. Ppl 4get the occupy movement was started by a man burning himself. I know of 2 other instances of this. One in philly, another on the capitol steps. I know some kids who used throw frisbees across streets stopping traffic. These were students mind u. Sometimes just walking alonga hiway can attract a lil bit of attention. Many folks do this.
No, I think you've hit it right on the head on the second half. In many ways, this nation has become even more morally bankrupt since Nixon and Kent State. There was hope in the backlash of Kent State and the disgrace of Nixon, but Nixon should have been made an example of - in a big way. The extreme right has only been encouraged by Nixon and his subsequent ilk. Nixon practically invented the smear campaign - he was a genuine sociopath and his poisoned seed was spread wide and far. It's the old "I know I"m a crooked bastard, wink, wink, but that's how we good ole boys get things done in Washington" attitude that still flourishes in the soul of the GOP - you need look no farther than Newt Gingrich to see it alive and well today and I'm now I'm seeing it on the Washington left too. Do whatever it takes to move your agenda further, even if by doing so you eclipse the purpose of your agenda in the first place. The blame for Kent State was ultimately shifted to the soldiers doing the shooting - just like Korea (ever wonder why our history books spend so little amount of time on Korea?) just like Vietnam, just like Panama, just like IRAQ and Afghanistan will be and 2 decades from now some war room psychopath who still thinks of human beings as statistics and statistics alone will make an off handed remark in some obscure documentary long after anyone cares to give a shit and we'll know for certain what many of us have suspected all along - that this nation has become the tyrant, the evil empire, the imperialistic war machine resource glutton hell bent on ruling this scorched earth - villain, and all that was needed was to marginalize the notion of peace and those who believe in peace. So here we are marginalized. Free to preach to our choir (how many times have you heard a major "news" network mention the Occupy Movement since Christmas? That's not an accident, that's called collusion), but don't get too loud and don't make too much of stink, because we've desparate men and women (being threatened with major budget cuts, also not an accident) who will happily spray you in the face with pepper spray and tear gas, and imprison you, and if that doesn't shut you up - well - I guess your right, the verdict is still out on that one, but I get the feeling we're going to find out - soon.
Watch the state and local governments keep their cops well fed er, paid. The cops are one of the biggest voting blocks in local and state elections. They, as a group, have a lot of political power and its growing exponentially. Just look at the double digit rise in the state prison populations. In Indiana the prison population has grown 40% in the last 10 years! All those new guards are part of the huge growing voting block. Politicians will give them what they want for their vote. That's scary!
