I am supremely glad to hear about the racoons "sharing" the food with the cats...I've seen a racoon (and a possum) on the back porch, where the outside cats "live" in cold weather. I was truly scared for them, but they (the 2 cats) were always up on something and just quietly watching (or pretending to not watch), as the racoon ate. Really it flipped me out, as it glared at me as if to say, "and your problem IS?", then he would return to eating. Hah, he seemed to think, as he would glance back...before I'd just go ahead and turn out the light since all was well. So far, so good with our cat's safety and racoons and possums.
Also, I should have added that this was always, had been always at night.... In the day, seeing a fox, racoon, or even possum, especially Not Scared of Humans is indicative of rabies.
So far i have not seen any problems, i put out plenty of food, there is 10 cats so i put out 10 bowls, i watch the raccoon, or used to its to cold now, when i would be outside smoking, he would look at me as if to say the same thing. He won't actually eat directly from the bowl, he'll just stand next to one of the cats and pick out food with his front paws.
