Eh. I have been around teachers my entire life. My mother has been teaching children from 7-25 years old for nearly 30 years. I've read biographies and books on teachers and education in the USA, and I've been through the educational system in Quebec and Ontario for the past... 20 years and counting. It is my opinion that there are some values one cannot learn from the home.
of course not. you learned everything from a teacher. so far as i can tell, teachers can kiss my ass. in ALL my life, with ALL the teachers i've had in so many different regions, all but three were self-absorbed assholes who believed their world was holy. they apparently took too much to heart the awe of small children and teenagers.
i've yet to see where a teacher is able to do that without spewing their own opinion like it's holy. you can teach critical thinking, logic and world issues without going on and on about your wothless and biased opinions. i think letting teachers natter on and on about their opinions is where education went straight to shit in the usa.
I'm sorry to hear that you've had bad teachers. I have had some amazing teachers in my life, but I did go to a wonderful private school. I plan to be a teacher myself, and I will stop at no short of amazing. I have had extremely shitty college professors here though (except maybe... 4 really good ones, no real middle ground though). I do understand where you're coming from when you say that teachers tend to think that they are God, yet I'm sure that it's more common with stuck up college professors than with high school teachers.
i've had some truly horrific fucking teachers, and they were further inflicted upon my younger siblings. so much time wasted listening to them blabber on about whatever they thought about whatever, instead of teaching the freaking subject. 45 minutes of a 55 minute class and i learned way more at the library than i ever learned in class.
Yes, I also didn't learn much in school, even though I've had good teachers... But that's because I'm omniscient.
i had a couple. i learned a lot from them. but in the 50 or so teachers i've had in my life, i learned MOST OF ALL to just nod and smile.
