Gi Gi is 50ish but she thinks she's 30. The Camaro is part of her midlife crisis.

People say the new Camaro looks "just like the old ones"...

    It doesn't.

It looks like a kids toy. A badly designed kids toy. Like one of those "Transformer" pieces of shit...

I hate Fords, but the newish Mustangs don't look too bad....

    But this thing slays!

I wish they hadn't killed off Plymouth so there could have been a 'Cuda version.

A friend of ours has one of those but it's black....and it's badass! She recently separated from her husband and told him she doesn't care what happens to the car....he can have it if he wants it. I was like...wtf!! If you're going to give the car away, give it to someone who hasn't ruined your life...like me! I'll take good care of it! :) (But if he gets it, he has to make the payments so it's not like she's really just giving it away)

I have no idea what will happen to it because he already has a couple of pretty nice vehicles and she bought that car because she was the one who wanted it.

In other news...I played a show this evening. We got to play first and played to a pretty full house. Good energy with the crowd. That helped fuel the jams and the keys player and I intentionally pushed everything we could off the cliff tonight. There was no prior discussion of it.....it just grew on its own. Great night and it was nice to play first. Lots of fun. We headline there in a couple of weeks.

Edit to say...we're usually the headliners there so playing first for one hour is kind of a relaxing change for us. I stayed for part of the next band and then just came home early.

I remember the old days when one band played all night and just took 20 minute breaks.

We did that for years but now it seems like venues usually want to book more than one band...either that or...bands are not as capable as they used to be of playing all night. We can still play all night...easily. But I think that's a different mindset and experience than only playing one hour. Two different approaches to the night.

We love playing by ourselves because we have so much more time to develop the vibe and evolve with the changing crowd. But at the same time...I have to admit...once venues started booking openers as the norm, it was like...we only have to work/play for two hours tonight? Sweet! We can just play our favorite stuff.

And another thing...I remember back when this first started happening....we got booked to open for a nationally touring act. We were supposed to play for maybe two and a half hours and then they would play for 45 minutes. They were great guys but I asked them backstage "Why are we playing for 2 1/2 hours and you guys are only playing for 45 minutes? You guys are on tour." Their guitar player said "It's because you guys can play for that long and we only have 45 minutes of music". I was fucking blown away. You guys are touring on 45 minutes of music? That's all you have? I mean...they were great for that 45 minutes but....45 minutes is what you have? My band can fuck around and invent new stuff for 45 minutes if we wanted to.

So that kind made me open my eyes to things that were changing on the scene.

Venues do it for money. More bands = more fans = more money.

I couldn't believe it when I started going out again about 10 years ago.

I hate going to see one of my favorites and they have a really short set.

It's usually not worth the drive.

You're completely right. Bands have to realize that we don't get hired for our own egos. It's a job and there are financial issues for us and the venue. I even just caught myself earlier today in a conversation...a friend invited me to do something and without thinking, I said...I would but I have to work tonight....because I did have to work tonight. You can make it a hobby or a job but you should be happy to do it. To me...it's the best job in the world.

I'm watching an animal show and it is saying that a cheetah would rather flee than stay and defend a kill...so even though they are the fastest animal, it doesn't always help. They will run from both hyenas and lions. (Probably other animals too that I either didn't hear or they didn't mention.)

AND a hyena can even take down a lion...a fact I didn't know. A hyena has such a good digestive tract as well as powerful jaws, 2 or 3 or them can completely eat a wildebeest - bones and all in a couple of days. mercy

I've decided what I'm really going to do in my bedroom and it starts with gel staining the wood trim to be darker.

That will bring out the wall colour as well and provide a good contrast when facing North.

Did a hot toddy last night and can breathe through my nose this morning. Had a potpourri pot simmering in my room last night with eucalyptus and that helped as well.

I think venues around here have changed for music lineups mainly so that they attract more people. It is not unusual to have several different genres of music on in the same night. Larger appeal more revenue.

I will do that. I used honey, lemon, ginger, garlic and a shot of brandy in it. Worked well and I slept like a baby! :)

Went to my grandpas memorial today (he didn't want a traditional funeral and we put this off for long enough to give people plenty of notice if they wanted to travel for it). It was mostly older people but it was interesting to hear them all tell stories about my grandpa that I'd never heard before. Just random funny things that he probably never thought to tell me. Many of the people had known my grandpa for most of his life.

One old guy said that when he was about 18 and my grandpa was 14...grandpa was out seeing a band (must run in the family) and he went to pick him up when it was over. My grandpa jumped in the truck and said "You get the gas and the women and we'll have ourselves a night!" (Funny if you were there)

Then there was the story that I've heard many times about when he was in the Korean war. They found out he was an only son so they ordered him back from the front lines. He would instead drive a supply truck to the front line and back. There were two Korean orphans....little boys about 7 or 8 yrs old...that he started taking care of. He planned on bringing them home with him when the war was over and was quite unhappy to find out that he couldn't. He never did find out what became of them after he was sent home.

So many stories....such a kind man who had a pretty great life!
