That's true. As soon as they started selling them in stores like Lowe's I knew they would be the cheap models. I once had a guy (power co. customer) ask me if I was interested in buying in couple of them from him. He said they were basically new but his shoulders were too bad for him to use them and there was something wrong with them because his son couldn't get them to run. I think he wanted $200 or $250 for both. I looked at them and they were pretty shiny and new but I told him I wasn't interested. One was a smaller saw and the other was more of a medium size saw.

He asked me a couple more times while we were there....trying to lower the price. Still not interested. He had a tree trunk that he needed dropped so finally I was like.....these aren't the grade of saw we use but if you just want to unload them to get rid of them....we'll drop that trunk for you and I'll give you $50 (if I remember correctly.) He took that offer and when we got back at the end of the day I took a look at them. The smaller saw didn't have any gas in it. Put some gas in...ran perfectly. The bigger saw had gas in it but nobody bothered to actually turn the saw on. It ran fine too. I think I gave the smaller saw to someone and the bigger one is still floating around somewhere. The smaller one was junk though (by my standards....would have been fine for whoever I gave it to).

Home owner use some of those cheaper saws are okay... some will just get people in trouble and really shouldn't be on the market.. For pro use the cheaper saws would be worthless, obviously. On the other end a pro saw that gets used occasionally by a home owner tend to gunk up from not being used enough.

I like the two Poulans that I have... They work well for what I'm doing

I should soon be the owner of a Cub Cadet... Seller hasn't gotten back to me yet.

trees attacked me today as I was cutting the vines down from inside them. cant have those vine choking out my trees. finally got to the root of all evil . while I admire such a determined plant. Its out of control snaking out everywhere beer bottle thick .. as I was yanking down the vines the dead trees crumbled apart sending branches all over me... one nice scratch I got looks like I missed when getting a fix. need to til the area under all that dead canopy replant some grass. my other grass is doing good/// chopped out all those chives to the root. getting tired of cutting the grass smells like onions. fuck that shit.

They should be fine as long as they don't have fuel left in them. I have a 3120XP Husqvarna that we used to use a lot but rarely use now. But it still runs fine even if it sits for a year or two. The longer it sits...the better for me. I hate running that saw. 9.5 hp engine....6 ft bar and chain. Google that badboy if ya want to check it out.

yeah even the cheap saws are fine if used often...they will wear faster than the expensive ones but are usually just as reliable if you always have fresh fuel in it and use it lots

Never known of a typical home owner that drained the fuel out of any piece of equipment when they get done using it... That's why there's so much "lightly used, but non-running" stuff on Craig's list and fleaBay...

Pretty sweet saw collection. There is a guy near me with a decent collection that takes up two stories of his shop. I once gave him a few oldies I'd found here or there. I thought it would be cool to keep them but he appreciated them more than me and...by giving them to him...more people could check them out.

So this was pretty cool....I was reading an article about whether plants can feel pain and there has been a debate for some time. Well...a researcher took a plant that reacts to touch similarly to a Venus Fly Trap (don't remember the name of the plant but I used to have one)....the leaf temporarily folds shut upon the sensation of contact. They put it on a dish and gave it Ether through the roots. They covered it with a glass cover and waited an hour. When they went back....the plant didn't react to touch at all. It was like it was asleep...but with no known neurological system to support such a reaction. But the result was the same as you would expect in an organism with a central nervous system.

So...then they went to Europe where a different researcher was conducting tests with electrodes on plants. Once the electrodes were in place, he held a flame beneath some leaves. The plant responded with measurable electrical impulses throughout the plant....without a neurological system. So the plant may not have felt "pain" but it could at least detect and respond to outside stimulus.

In humans and other animals...we have our central nervous system which is basically neurons communicating with each other through electrical impulses crossing the synapse between the axons and dendrites of the neurons (think of axons and dendrites as basically transmitters and receptors). To our knowledge...plants and trees do not have this hardware....so what does this mean?

I was telling my wife about this earlier and she said "So what's the point?" Well....that is the point. It speaks for itself. It needs no justification from me. It's cool all by itself!! That's badass!

Study done back in the 70's in Russia about plant's reactions using electrodes... As the guy was thinking about what to do next he thought "i'll burn a leaf" and the plant went crazy. When he actually did burn the leaf he got the same response but at a much lower level... Plants can read your mind.

Perhaps some have known this all along. Much like I suspect of many genres of science.

Pick up the Cub Cadet 2166 this weekend... Heard back from the guy overnight and payment Friday is fine with him. The guy that gave me the Ranch King is gonna help me go get it, probably on Sunday. (I don't have a trailer) Seems I'll have a few carburetors to rebuild next month. Some blades to install too... And a shytload of mowing to do.

Took the Ranch King engine over to the shed/barn/whatever and set it aside, Gotta get the rest of that tractor back over there and tarp it... Dead project. Guess I can start stealing parts from it.

With that engine out of the garage the WoodRat came back in and I took the steering apart... It's pretty shot, Not sure exactly how I'm gonna fix that. It's not like parts for that thing are readily available...

ReStore is the best place for paint I can get gallons of new/old paint for $3.00 (old stock, never opened)

Rain here today, wondering how much outside work I'll get done.
