Anyways... at the moment the WoodRat has no steering... I took it apart last night. I need a new bushing and the drag link (or whatever it's called from the sector gear to the front spindle) Sector gear is pretty borked, but It will have to do... There's no way I'd find one of those. Pin is okay, I need new snap rings. If I can get the gears to mesh tight, the sector gear will be okay... There's no adjustment possible on this unit.

I doubt very much they ever considered someone actually using a Bready 60 years after it was built.

The one restored Bready that I've seen on the net is for sale... $500.00 It's a pretty machine. (mine is cooler 'cause it's a Rat)

Of course! Full body harness. Do you know me? ;)

I don't wear a full body harness though. I wear a belt harness, have always worn a belt harness....but I'm the only one who gets to wear that.

if the sector is cast it can be welded up and grind the new teeth back to shape

my highest beam walk was the high points of the underneath of the skydome/Toronto......310 feet from the beam to the floor.....did that every day with only a belt style climbing harness....we supplied our own lanyards and carabineers etc.....sitting across from my brther on a beam and he leaned too far and I had to grab him....he only would have fallen 5 feet until the safety hit but it is still scary as hell when it happens.....some dudes walked the north south beams that had no safety....not I

    Two things... It's not cast.

    And..... I don't have a welder. :wall:

It's actually 4 pieces of plate steel riveted together. (for some odd reason) The carrier it's attached to is cast, as are many other pieces on this tractor including the front nose/grille/whatever so it's not like Bready didn't use cast iron... I guess the 4 steel plates were thought to be stronger?

    plate steel sounds even easier

you could just cut some new ones with the plasma cutter that you dont have

The two year old can get any two year chick he wants. He is gorgeous. This pic was nearly 6 months ago. His hair is still growing and he does rock the man bun.

    I have a hacksaw....

I was eyeing the rack and pinion on the now defunct Ranch King... Problem would be the steering shaft. The gears and linkage would be... Well, interesting to say the least.

Motor is probably good... Electrics are bad. The "seized up" was the flywheel rusted to the plate just underneath. Motor has been stashed away in the shed for now. The guy that gave it to me feels bad because it did run when he got it and he is the one that let it sit out...

He's gonna help me go get that Cub Cadet this weekend.
