I've found that almost every dog I've ever known loves cheese. If he isn't up for cheese...something is wrong. But hopefully it's nothing serious.

Something told me to sign in tonight. :)

At his size you can give him 2 baby aspirins. Nothing else ,it has to be buffered baby aspirin anything else can cause renal failure. If you have a thermometer take his temp (anal) it should be at resting between 101 and 102F if it is above 103 it is considered to be a temperature. You can apply cool compresses to his head and his stomach but not to his feet as he needs to be able to sweat to break the fever and that is through the pads on his feet. Check his gums and if they are white/pale and sticky he his dehydrated and if you gently twist his ruffle at his neck and it sticks he needs more fluids.

In the broth add some carrot, rice and a couple of teaspoons of corn syrup to help him with the dehydration and also restore some balance to his electrolytes. Do not try to force water instead use ice chips in his mouth it is better for him as he will absorb slower. Sometimes forcing water will induce vomiting and that is not a good thing.

Give him a hug for me. :)

Well after Buddy ate and drank last night he perked up a bit and we actually went outside and played for a few minutes.
Thinking part of his issues yesterday was dehydration as it's been in the upper 80's lately and he wasn't drinking any water. He is still obviously not 100% today, but not completely out of it like yesterday.
I did have to pet him until he fell asleep last night or he would start whining, it's like having a 4 year old kid in the house again. LOL.
Gonna get some aspirin and keep up on the soup today.

Glad to see he has perked up a little, that is a good sign. :) I think I have probably stayed up more nights with sick puppies and dogs and delivering puppies than I have with the kids. The reward is when they look at you with that trust and start to turn the corner on feeling better.

I should have mentioned last night that it is alright to give baby aspirin to a dog but NEVER to a cat as they can not process that and it will probably kill them.

but could I give the aspirin to the cat and then feed the cat to Buddy? :D

that is one thing I ruled out right away, anything caught from another dog.
Buddy doesn't hang out with other dogs or cats, he thinks they are all chew toys.
Luckily I have only had to break up one fight so far.

I'm so glad to hear Buddy seems to be on the mend, NGas.

    How old is Buddy?

Please administer a dose of hugs from me as well. :)

I think you should stick to chicken as cat might be a bit much as he recuperates. :)

The two issues with being around other dogs that are the most common are kennel cough and parvo. Parvo is deadly and the survival is very low from that as usually by the time they have symptoms it is too late. He does not fit the symptoms of those so that is a blessing.

Keeping him on the fluids and the aspirin should really help him and of course the pampering and love will also go a long way!

We are not really sure, around 5 years, he is a bull mastif/pit bull mix.
He was abandoned, left chained to someone's fence. Luckily the person whose fence he was chained to knew a women who evaluates dogs like Buddy for the police to see if they are safe or need to be put down. Her estimation was that he had been trained to fight to a degree, but doesn't have the killer temperament and is safe around people.

But he does still go into fight mode whenever he sees another dog, but he is a lot better than he was when he arrived at our door 8 months ago, but if able to, he will go straight for the throat of another dog, he doesn't even bother with the social protocol of butt sniffing, just straight for the throat.
It is challenging to take him out at times and I've had to figure out when everyone else around here walks their pooch so we go in the "off" hours...LOL
It is funny to see him get all worked up when we are in the car and he see another dog.

Well he just finished another bowl of chicken soup and is looking much better so far today. :)

In other news my daughter has an interview with the Navy tomorrow.
They approached her last year because of her standout academic record and then again this year and she is going for it.
She will be training for a year or so after graduation and then will become an instructor at the Naval Academy in Virginia teaching about nuclear technology as it pertains to submarines, not bombs, or at least the mathematics involved.
They are offering her full payment for all her schooling, undergrad and post, including paying off our loans for her school and then start her at around 70-90K a year salary. Plus she will also get any benefits for being in the military. I think she said it was a 5 year commitment on her part, but as an instructor, that's not a problem.
Not too bad for a kid who is only 19 and in her second year of college. [IMG]
Just found out she would be teaching Navy Seals.

    wish her luck.

In bed for 4 hours last night. Did not fall asleep quickly. Restless sleep when I did sleep.

Like grandma always said..."That just means I'll sleep good tonight!".

From her sainted lips to the ears of the gods.

    I dislike insomnia.

Join the club. I've slept about 6 hours total since friday. Think I managed 30 minutes of actual sleep last night.
I have bouts that last about 4-6 days and it pretty much sucks.

probably just my latent bi-polar disorder raising it's ugly head...LOL

Nox, you and your whole family must be so proud that you are all bursting buttons!! My congratulations to your daughter and I know she will shine in her new path. Once she is done her obligatory time if she chooses to leave the services she will be able to write her own ticket on where she wants to go!

I can't say I am surprised as I remember years ago posting about all she was working towards and all the volunteering she was doing.

    Bravo!! :)

Isn't it great when we get to celebrate good news about our kids and know that they are well on the way to living life in a good way! :)

    thanks Heather.

Yeah, she has astounded me her whole life. she was born ten weeks early, came out at a whopping 4lbs 12 oz or something like that. Stretched head to toe she easily fit on my forearm.

But we really knew she was something special at 4 years old. She had a play date with a friend from pre-school and I had lost the paper with their phone number on it. While the wife and I were looking all over for it, Melissa got some newsletter from school, called the school and explained the situation to the secretary and got the number.
So here is my wife and I frustrated and irritated and in walks little Melissa, post-it in hand with the number on it.
We were both :yikes: and wondering why we didn't think of that.

apparently she is surprising all her professors with her grades and has made the Dean's List both years.

I should also mention this is a kid who waits until 11 PM the night before something is due before working on it and still gets the grades she does.
Drives me crazy, but I was the same way... :dizzy2:

I remember when she did the charity walk and was so determined to complete it and raise as much as she could for them. Granted she did exactly that!!

You done did a great job raising her and you both have every right to be so very proud! :)
