there was a simple project, in mechanics illustrated, back in the early 60s, that addressed the uneasy feeling created by the ionization in the air, before a storm. of course it can do little for socio-psychological causes. or can it?
at any rate, there was some kind of a little ionization light bulb used in clothes dryers in those days. fit a standard lightbulb socket.
the project was to mound one of a scrap of board, then cut a notch or slit in a soup can, we didn't call it recycling yet in those days, but people used things they no longer needed for somthing else.
so you put one of these, i think they were supposed to be in clothes dryers to help sanitize what was being dryed in them. (i can't honestly remember ever seeing a lamp in a cloths dryer, presumably they must have been refering to large scale commercial ones) so at any rate, you put one of these in the light bulb socked and its housing that you've mounted on this board, and then you attach the modified can(tin i think they call them in the old empire) to the light socket in such a way as make a kind of tunnel, open at both ends, for the air to flow through around it.
that was the whole thing. well that and a safe power chord to plug it in with.
today we would probably add one of those computer power supply cooling fans you can get at any electronic parts store, to force air through the tube formed by the modified tin can.
not sure where you'd get one of those 'sanitising light bulbs' though. at the time of the article, they used to a regular shelf item in supermarkets and hardware stores, right in with the regular light bulbs.
the bulb in question that was the key to the whole concept, is smaller then 25 watt. it looked to be a 10 watt maybe. and i think the project mounted a regular light bulb and socket in series with it for balast.
if you see one, the bulb is spherical, and only just slightly larger then its standard light bulb base.
i remember making and using one, and a lot of other people i knew did too.
everything but the recycled soup can, are still standard items from any electrical department in any hardware store. probably the big box stores too. only tools would be a screw driver and something to strip wire with, oh and i suppose a drill for starter holes for the mounting screws, and a really basic understanding of obvious things about electricity. you know, like keeping the wires insulated from each other and yourself and not pluging it in until making sure they're all connected and no bare metal (except the can, and that not touching anything electrical) showing.

Is that similar to Tyvek house wrap? We have our coop wrapped with vented plastic but that other stuff would work just as well to keep the wind out.

I feel less anxious since doing a little work on my family "shrine". Over in SL I mentioned feeling really tugged at to put the deceased family members photos in a grouping somewhere.

I dug out some photos of my parents because they were easiest to get to. The anxiety got stronger and stronger until I finally hung them on the wall.

Things were calming down for me until I started typing this post and the ladder that was folded against the wall for half an hour all of a sudden decided to crash itself into the floor.

I may have to dig out some more photos to calm these spirits down, lol.

I just got done doing my billing. I would bitch about still "working" at this time of night but if you have to be working....billing is what you want to be doing. Now....if there were only people sitting around at this time of night working on sending me checks for said bills. It's not like this is the first time some of these have been sent. Some are a month or two old. It's just the way it goes sometimes.

Billing was one of the jobs I did for my dad. Then he and my brother tried to teach me phone collection, lol. I was still a bit young and timid for that.

I did it but I wasn't comfortable doing it. My oldest brother is the real asshole. He should have done it and no one else. Hell, I didn't even start to feel like a real adult until I was 30 and they had me doing this when I was 20. I didn't feel like I could call up people and demand money against all their excuses.

I wouldn't be comfortable doing it either but it's not because I have a problem being an asshole. I don't really have a problem doing that but I don't think it's the most effective option most of the time. I'm much more of a negotiator and a diplomat. That said....collecting money is a different game than what I do most of the time. Maybe you just have to be an asshole to collect money from certain people. I don't know....I've only had to sue one person (who paid before the court date) and threaten to sue one other person in the whole time I've been in business. I wouldn't want to have to do that very often.

We were fortunate in that the business was carpet installation. We'd just tell them what day we were coming out to take all their carpet up.

My dad runs a flooring business as well. I found that I had no problem calling people to collect money. Flooring is not essential to life - if you don't have the money, don't buy new carpet! If I were selling something like refrigerators or fixing roofs, I think I might have felt more compassion for them.

There's a white bean and chicken chili that's good. Next time I make that I'm going to add some bacon. That sounds good.

Here, you have to have a doctor sign. It wasn't that way 20 years ago but it is now.
