Attagirl, Jane! Thanks, Rolling! I thought they might be life-mates because the white peahen, Iggy, wouldn't have anything to do with Jessie... and Jane tended to pick on her.. so, who knows. But maybe that's because the white thinks she's a chicken. We had to raise her with some pullets when she was hatched. Otherwise baby peacocks can starve if the chickens don't teach them how to do things. Peacocks are not all that bright. Sooo beautiful, though.

Every time we have lost an animal here the others seem to grieve as much as we do. It is a comfort and yet also a heartache when it happens as we all miss them for such a long time.

I am going to attempt to do some cleaning today, if it goes well things will sparkle and if not I am not going to turn on any bright lights tonight and fool myself. :)

Piper's medications seem to keep her resting. That's a good thing. She's a big, playful, and vocal dog. I'm glad she can rest.

Speaking of losing animals.....we seem to be missing a chicken. Can't find her anywhere and nobody remembers seeing her in the last few days.

I tried a couple of small sips of rum tonight....first time I've ever tried it. It was ok. I am amused by my friends reactions to learning that I've never tried rum, vodka, etc. They're usually like "What?! You've never had vodka? Not even once?!" No...I guess I haven't. I should get some vodka to drink my lost chicken sorrows away.

I wonder what the hell happened to that chicken.

    Vodka makes me cry.

Don't drink Vodka when you're already on the verge.

Did a coyote get your chicken?

Wizard... are there coyotes where you live? They're usually the culprits around here if a chicken goes missing. But, we've lost some to cougars, bobcats, stray dogs and hawks, too. Everything seems to like the taste of chicken. :)

Speaking of chickens... my fussy neighbor came over today for some eggs. We give all the neighbors free eggs and they sometimes bring things to trade from their garden. I asked the rooomie to clean up a couple dozen eggs for her. (We don't wash the eggs until it's time to use them because it removes all the natural anti-bacterial anti-fungal enzymes on the shell) The neighbor lady said, "Oh don't bother washing the eggs. We always wash them before they come into the house because you're a smoker and they smell like nicotine."

WHAT the bloody hell? They do NOT. I've given all the neighbors free eggs for seven years now and this is the first I've heard of such a thing. People drive the extra mileage from town to get our eggs, too. She really hurt my feelings.. the wench. I know nicotine smells awful to non-smokers but it's not like I'm sitting in the hen house and smoking. And I sure as hell haven't taught my chickens to smoke, either. They're too young.

Tell her the shells are porous and that you've been poisoning her with nicotine that she can't wash off.

If you wash eggs then you have to put them in the refrigerator. If you don't wash them, you can leave them on the counter for up to three weeks.

We have coyotes.....literally thousands of them all over but not in town. We've never had this problem before. They stay out in the country and we live almost smack-dab in the center of our smaller city. There are no signs of the chicken being killed....like when our old dog killed a couple there were feathers all over. I guess anything is possible though. Maybe it was a fox.

Maybe it was the bitchy chicken-hating neighbor.

Nah....that was a friend of mines neighbor. My neighbors are fine with our chickens. And I guess something changed with the city's position on chickens because I heard today that they basically changed their minds and said there will be no changes in the city code regarding chickens.

yep, Rolling. I should quit smoking. I SHOULD do a lot of things. But, I like my cigs. It's my worst vice these days and isn't that boring as hell. :)

If they'd legalize my herbage, I'd switch in a sweet minute. Too bad Canada is so frikken' cold. I'm totally envious of you people and your freedom in vices.
