The apple pie turned out okay. I don't think I rolled the crust thin enough, though. It was flaky but too thick. Very eatable with a scoop of frozen yogurt on top but not what I thought it was going to be.

We finally got all the sweet potatoes dug up so I think I'll look up a recipe for sweet potato pie next and give that a go. If you do it right, it can taste like pumpkin pie, right?

you made your own crust blueslady?.....onehint is to use as little water as possible ...it will be slightly crumbly at first but you knead it back to doughy goodness just before rolling it out......the art of rolling the dough o the pin in orderto move it from the counter to the pie plate is also a bit tricky but well worth mastering

Yep.. I made my own crust, Rolling. Can you believe it! I think I used 3 tablespoons of ice water and 2 tablespoons of ACV. Yes, it was crumbly. So, I should have kneaded it more before rolling it out? Cool.. thanks for the tip!

My girlfriend said it was very important to use the coldest butter and to cut the butter into tiny pea sized bits. Do you do that, too?

 

I use shortening and I also use egg with the vinegar and water...1 cup total....I make 6 balls or 3 pies worth at a time

and yes the method is to ''cut'' the shortening or butter into the flour as opposed to mushing it in...

refrigerating the mixture before making the balls makes it all easier and less messy to work with..

My daughter was supposed to to do an assignment over the weekend. She was supposed to make a case for and against the Keystone XL pipeline. She asked me to write my opinion. I basically wrote "The positive aspect of the pipeline is that...if you don't care at all about the environment....you get a profitable way to move the dirtiest oil on the planet to refineries. To the negative aspect....the pipeline doesn't really matter and the publicity is simply a cover to divert attention away from the TPP Pact that was recently approved which no media outlet wants to discuss. None of that is of any benefit to most average citizens."

I thought she simply wanted my opinion. She turned in my words for her assignment.....almost word for word. Her teacher had no response.
