Right there with ya! Except they don't depress me. Some of them just piss me off and make me be a prick to them. That may just happen again tomorrow.

It occurs to me that I could start a construction/contractor business around here (assuming I had the right people) and kick other businesses asses all over the place simply by doing small things like having people on the job when they are supposed to be there, meeting deadlines, returning phone calls in a timely manner, etc. The price almost doesn't even matter if you can win on those small fronts. I could charge 30% more and still get work because people have deadlines and need someone who with come through. I've talked to so many people over the last 6 months who have the same problems.....even in my own line of work. How hard is it? Really? We got a work order from the power company on Tuesday.....we were there today and did most of the work. We will be there tomorrow to complete everything and then start another private job for the same person. If we don't get that done....we will finish it on Saturday morning. Three days from the time the guy called and we will have something like 40 dead trees knocked out. You can't always get there that fast but when I called him and said we would be there....we were there and we'll be there until all of his work is completed.

Oh yeah...and that's the guy whose wife called me a "little shit" today. It was pretty funny. A number of years ago, I removed a huge tree for them as part of a larger job. She was worried about it falling into the garden. I promised her numerous times that we wouldn't hit anything with any part of the tree. So we topped it and dropped the trunk perfectly away from the garden. So when I saw her today she said "I knew that was you outside. You told me you were going to miss my garden and you laid that tree down exactly where you said it would go, you little shit!" Hahahaha...it makes me smile to even think of her. She's awesome and she made lunch for the whole crew back then. Not just lunch...more like a 3 or 4 course dinner. We ate well that day! I'm happy that we're back there right now. I value those kind of relationships through work.

Hmmm...that last post is a really good idea. I love doing construction/remodeling stuff on my own. I have a decent number of good friends who are masters of their various trades (like my friend who helped me rewire the house because those other fuckers couldn't get it done). But most of those guys are retired or near retiring. They are from the old school era of guys who trained me in my job. I wouldn't need them to work for me but I would need them to help train and oversee guys working for me. That's a part-time gig that they might enjoy. <wheels turning in my head>

It would be cool if you could at least setup a situation where those old masters were able to pass along their experience and new guys could learn how to do things right. All they seem to learn now is how to cut corners and cheap it out.

Just back from getting a headlight replaced on the car. When I went out this morning I could tell from the reflection on the car in front of me (street parking) that something was out. After our walk in the rain in the park I drove to the toyota place and they fixed it in 20 minutes. Could have been worse but Grace had a nightmare in the waiting room. (people scare her anyone anywhere). We both survived. Now on to the rest of what all I have to do today.

When I see the threads and posts made...the sexual stuff....it makes me fearful of people. Cuz there sure seem to be some freaks out there and I'm thinking they appear normal. You never know who....

One of my boys just mentioned that our company was in the Register-Guard with 4 other companies as the best roofing companies in Eugene. It's some kind of contest and there will be a vote, I guess. But anyway--OOOOH YEAH!

(the boys are super conscientious. All puffed up proud am I!)

It all seemed like a good idea last night after 2 or 3 IPAs. Upon a more sober reflection...at least those guys are always willing to teach me how to do stuff.

I was waaayyy off on my estimate of the number of dead trees we had to remove at this property we were working at. I went back and counted after it was done. Part of yesterday and part of today....77 dead trees removed. Plus another huge dead Elm in the customers back yard that we started at about 2:30 and stayed a couple of hours late to get done. But at least we don't have to finish it in the morning.

It was junk. Dead White Pine that was so dry that the saws run through it like it's nothing. But the Elm produced a ton of wood. I actually remembered to take a pic for once today. Maybe I'll try to post it later. It was from up in the bucket above the power line while all the trunks were still standing. It looked kind of cool.
