To be honest, some of this hell is my hell also, in some ways. But I wouldn't know what to say either. It's just what is, and I need to deal with it. It stinks.

My first question would be: Since it seems your uncle has no health insurance, has he checked into public assistance? That won't help with the existing debt, but maybe could help keep it from getting even worse.

 

He has health insurance, but they have 'used it up' you could say...public assistance wouldn't happen.

If he files for divorce, their health insurance plan and many other insurances would change...and it would destroy her even if she was still living at home with them...she would feel fucked over...she would have to cover every hospital bill from her going in and other things..anything my uncle does to help himself out of this, would feel like murder in a way.

Its pretty crazy.

 

You say public assistance "wouldn't happen" - are you sure about this? I mean, has anybody actually checked into it?

My stepdaughter spent a year in a state institution and over a year in a group home. This was paid completely through disability SSI and state health funding, which was coordinated by the state Dept of Mental Health. She was an adult at the time.

Just because your uncle's health insurance is "used up" doesn't necessarily mean your aunt is not eligible for state or federal assistance - somebody should really check before eliminating this as a possibility.

I wouldn't assume anything. If the situation is dire, then there is no room for assumptions. The question should be asked.

 

the last name of my family looks like its coming to and end, which is crazy cause its been used since my great, great, great grandpa...i think..and if me and two other guys don't have kids...then the name is no more...its up to us. and none of us want to get married and have kids lol.

 

My son bears the burden for my grandfather's line of the family all by himself. There are lots of more distant family members with my last name though.

You're young though - you might change your mind in a couple decades if you get enough adventuring to satisfy you.
